Agreed, watching it in slow mo makes it even more apparent how bad and corrupt the stoppage was especially seeing Foster ready to jump in after Groves took one half decent shot and was throwing back bombs himself.

nothing wrong with that post at all mate

don't agree, but you gave a detailed explanation rather than one of the mugs who jus regurgitates eddie's "another 10 secs" bs

I thought, he put an amazing amount of effort in all the rounds, he should probably coast a bit and take himself to the championship rounds, as Froch looks pretty much knackered himself.... And it's all over, WTF???

The very fact that Froch was landing those hugely telegraphed shots told me George was hurt. Earlier in the fight he was evading them and countering them. At the time, I was surprised by the stoppage, but I didn't think it was outrageous.

George was no longer doing the things he'd done so well beforehand, Carl had gotten a foothold a round or two earlier and he strung together a series of hurtful shots. Froch was outboxed most of the night, but I don't think it was a controversial win. At the end of the day, fights are scheduled over a distance, and who was/is winning at the point of a stoppage becomes instantly irrelevant. I've heard some daft arguments about the stoppage, but remember that Foster is responsible for those fellas in there, and over in the states Abdusalamov is still in a coma, which must be in the minds of most referees. I know that George hadn't taken a beating to that extent, and if I were the referee i'd have probably given him another couple of seconds, but I'm not going to criticise Fosters caution.
Purely subjectively, in my mind Froch would have finished him from that point even if it had gone on.

He was throwing back and actually landing better at times, he stepped in with his guard up, tried a cheeky kick at Carls front foot to affect his balance which gave my credence to the thought he was wobbled. He did admittedly take a couple of good shots but not enough for that over zealous nobhead to rob us of a conclusive end to the fight

It looks a really terrible decision in slow mo, even worse.

Cheers mate :good. I agree totally stupidity going on over at most forums it seems.

    I agree totally.

I rewatched Eubank-Watson II and the ending had people baffled but in reality it was a marvelous decision.

Sometimes i think people look to much at the legs staggering when sometimes the upperbody and facial expressions can also be a sign.

Absolutely. Groves hits Froch with loads of shots and hurts him a few times and the ref lets it continue. Froch lands a couple of shots and hurts Groves and the ref jumps in and stops it.

just that it was gonna be an exciting ending. in the prediction thread i stated groves would be ahead (he did even better than i thought he would) but a lot depended on how he would cope with the ridiculous stamina of froch, and tipped a late stoppage. i didn't think he was in trouble at that moment though, the ref panicked, poor stoppage.

Watching the video it proves that the stoppage was even more ridiculous than I though. Previous to the stoppage exchange Groves throws and lands very hard punches of his own which stun Froch, then George tires a little and Froch continues his bum rush mainly missing with his wild shots, and manages to get a couple of digs in then all of a sudden Howard Foster jumps in and stops the fight... What a farce... It is clear to anyone who watches boxing that the stoppage is absolutely ridiculous.

They missed out the previous 20 seconds where he was chasing Groves around and landing punches without Groves throwing.

"I can only attribute this type of behaviour to the way we are brought up in this country where we have a history of celebrating great sporting near misses", Michael Owen says.

Compare this stoppage to the Bute stoppage.

Froch had neither the energy nor the accuracy to finish groves of at that point.

Groves proved he can weather and come back against Anderson.

Anyone who says Groves was gon is frankly clueless and yes that includes Carl who historically I have been a fan of.

Quite possibly Groves could have survived. But he was imo in real trouble and in danger of gettting properly stopped.
