Is it a good idea, for the Ref appointed, to be from the same area council as one of the Fighters.

A very good post and a good analysis of the situation. I re-watched it and saw shots Groves took that I thought he didn't, and he took some meaty punches at that. Switching off the sound makes a huge difference watching the fight. The stoppage may have been early but Froch's threat was very real coming at the end. Froch even looked stronger than I thought watching it on tape. I remember seeing Groves get caught with a couple of good shots in the 8th which made significant damage on him. Also you're correct about Grove's firefight mentality, he loves to fire back when in trouble. He looked good firing back at Froch, but he was taking punishment. He should have never have engaged with Froch so late in the fight and this cost him.

At the time... he is in trouble - he needs to fight out or take a knee before the ref steps in. At abut the time I thought **** times (much more and this could be considered sustained punishment) up he started to fight out and that's what annoyed me, the ref stepped in as he started fighting off the ropes.

As far as I am concerned he still had his hands up and did not take sustained punishment without reply - close but not enough/too early to have been stopped.

    Thanks Laz :good.

Funny thing is i muted the fight when it was live as i couldn't bear Watt and Hailing's commentary. It does paint things in a different light for sure.

I re-watched the stoppage sequence numerous times and saw different angles hence why i was able to put a decent post up about the stoppage.

I just thought he got himself disorganised rather than hurt.

I also think he thought that he was holding on to Froch rather than the ref.

    Dreadful stoppage.

Groves has come out and said his performance was not flawless like some of his fans think which is a very honest view and he has gone up in my estimations for saying that.

lessons he needs to learn going forward he really doesn't look good when he is under pressure, needed to tie up Froch or go on the back foot, why he went toe-to toe is anyones guess.

I rewatched it last night and I still think it was a great fight, that could of been even better

    If Foster hadn't grabbed Groves.
