Kovalev was a drunken truck driver by the time Canelo got in with him. And GGG was literally given his title by Canelo, only for Canelo to then later fight GGG after he had shown obvious signs of slipping.

So closest thing would be Danny Jacobs or Callum Smith?

People keep saying Canelo has an elite chin. Well, let's see the chin tested by a legitimate puncher who is actually in his prime. Enter David Benavidez. Dude can crack.

Closest we saw was GGG 1 which Canelo lost.

This older version of Canelo, without the elite speed and head movement he once had, will get hit by Benavidez but I'm not sure it will matter with pharmaceutical levels of Clenbuterol in his system and judges looking for any reason to give him rounds.

GGG was past it in the first fight but he was still a serious puncher. Benavidez poses a challenge Canelo has never had before, a prime pressure fighter. Will be a good test of his chin.

He does have a great chin and he's fought some legit bangers but not that many given the amount of fights he's had

GGG was past his prime/well past it but he was still a KO machine at the time

Kovalev was well past his prime and that Buddy McGirt trained version wasn't hitting near as hard as The Krusher of old so it would be disingenuous to act like he fought that version

There are a bunch of other big/pretty big punchers like like Callum Smith, Lara, Jacobs, Kirkland, Cintron, Plant etc. but not that many

Jermello came up from 154 so we can't really include him even though there wasn't much in it between them size wise

Bivol isn't considered a puncher but he's small for the weight, has fought a lot of very durable guys, almost all of whom bigger or much bigger than him, and his power is underrated

Usyk and Loma have fought more in 20 and 21 fights respectively than Clenelo has in 64 fights, especially when you factor in size because power is obviously magnified when you're facing much bigger and heavier opponents whose KO% is amassed against bigger/much bigger men than you

Usyk is the current gold standard for the amount of legit bangers and KO artists fought. It's crazy how many he's fought

The likes of Crawford, Haney, and Spence have fought very few, especially ones their size. Inoue hasn't fought many either but he did fight one of the biggest punching KO artists from the leprechaun divisions in recent memory in Nonito and he proved his chin in that one

Crawford has only really fought one legit banger his size in Egis and he got dropped in that one

Haney has only fought one legit puncher and that was a much smaller washed Linares and he was hurt by him too

Kirkland was a pretty big puncher 30 stoppages out of 34 wins although he had a pretty long lay off when he fought Canelo.

    Kermit Cintron.

Golovkin/Jacobs were in their prime and both big punchers.

    Callum Smith can hit.

Callum Smith and Kovalev didn’t even try to win against Clenelo.

Old Golovkin still hit hard when he fought him

Awful post. Canelo will not fight Benavidez like GGG1. It will be like GGG2 and GGG3. Canelo will get inside to his range...which is NOT Benavidez range...and he will do his usual stalking hook stuff.

Benavidez likes to be the only one moving forward and the only one throwing power punches. That works just fine versus Plant and Andrade but Canelo has more wrinkles.

Canelo decision all day unless he gets robbed in ironic passing of torch fight

    Disagree w entire post.

GGG was not past prime in first 2 fights. He came to America at 28 and was fresh since he had 0 close fights and had taken no damage.

GGG was also twice the boxer Benavidez is. This fight will be GGG2 not GGG1.

Why so many people keep referencing GGG1 when Canelo has done NOTHING but come forward in past 5 years...I have no idea. Canelo will come forward and Benavidez will be jabbing a lot from the outside while Canelo tries getting inside.

By the way, when Canelo gets inside all of Benavidez work is smothered outside of uppercuts. Benavidez has awful habit of squaring up to people with his jaw hanging out looking like he's trying to tie a clothing line to it and dry laundry. Canelo will exploit this badly.

He's fought a few power punchers in his time.

Kovalev, Smith, Golovkin, Jacobs, Kirkland, Cotto, Angulo, Cintron, Charlo, Fielding, Smith.

I think Canelo wins the fight but not the war.

Canelo does best when guys come at him. And he can bang it out in those situations very well. And he got the chin, head movement, and experience at the biggest stage.

But I think it will be a war and Canelo might leave a piece of himself behind in the ring.

None of those guys count because they weren't ripping off their shirts and foaming at the mouth with "Peak Prime Power."

Enter David Benavidez, the elite puncher who couldn't even crack Plant lol.

Canelo's chin is very well tested and proven to be asteroid tier. GGG tested it for 36 rounds. Kovalev, punch drunk or not, has heavy hands and still cracked harder than a typical light heavyweight by the time of the Canelo fight. Then there is Bivol who bashed Canelo's head in round 5 landing a volume of punches. Nearly all of them were clean hits at that. If taking all that on the chin and not dropping doesn't count as an elite chin, what does exactly? Taking that same combo from Beterbiev?

While we're on the subject, what exactly proves Benavidez is at the elite level with punching power? I think people are overrating Benavidez's power. He's strong certainly and above average, but elite? Nah. You need a resume to prove that and so far he lacks it.
