I used to wonder how Salvador Sanchez or Danny Lopez would do against Muhamad Ali. Oh yeay and i didnt think Archie Moore was that good cause id always see pictures of him getting kod by Ali,Patterson,Marciano and thought this old man is a bum. Then i would point out how many losses he had to prove my point LOL! I was only like 9 so my rididculous thinking should be excused.
When I saw the promo's for Hamed vs Barrera, I was in fear of Marco's life because the press truely had me believe that all Naseem had to do was land one big shot. That's the beauty of being a clueless kid back then and having the advantage of hindsight. The media manipulates people. Now why was it that I thought that was going to happen when I knew nothing about boxing? ...Because that's how Hamed was portrayed. "If this guy hits you it's all over".
I was thinking that Hamed was gonna win, then my Dad said that he isn't going to beat Barrera and I was like 'WTF are you talking about?'. I still remember it as if it was yesterday when he told me :yep
I knew it!! Thats why you are always accusing everyone of getting there knowledge off boxing records. Its always the one who is pointing fingers first:yep:yep:yep
Well you can spot it a mile off:yep It's such a bad way of forumulating an opinion, something I learned very, very quickly.
I still refer to Boxrec for dates every now and then and if I find a new fighter I like, I check their resume but don't let it be a determining factor.
**** it.... I got hooked on boxing back in '76........ All I knew was Ali at the time..... I thought he was boxing.... In a way, I guess he was........ BUT! I had no clue any division under heavyweight even existed back then...... That's no ****......... It wasn't until Ray Leonard burst onto the scene that I figured out smaller dudes actually fought too...... However, I was hip to the **** by the time "Leonard-Duran" were gonna get-it-on in Montreal...... I was 13....... MR.BILL
When I was young, I used to think that if fighter A beat fighter B and fighter B beat fighter C, then fighter A would also beat fighter C. Not just in boxing, but other sports as well. As so many have said before, it's all about styles.
And some are such newbs to the sport they never saw Tony Ayala fight back then, and there fore do not know wtf they are talking about:yep
