Taylor vs Pavlik I was pretty much my first fight I stayed up late for too bro. There were a few before that but that is the one that sticks in my mind for obvious reasons. I was hooked after that I feel.
I also thought De La Hoya got robbed against Mayweather, that was before I grasped that boxing was a sweet science and not just two men going hell for leather at each other.
I also felt Hoya won but that's because I had such disdain for Floyd at the time, and I was rather underwhelmed by his showing. Boxing is a very personal sport I feel, and we love our respective hero's. We can become jaded by hate and hero worship.
As a kid, I always figured the latest guy to beat Tyson must be some kind of unparalleled Master of the Universe who would reign supreme forever (Douglas, Holyfield). At least Holyfield ended up being the real deal (bad pun).
Well when I was a kid, I thought Mike Tyson could beat anyone....of all time! And on top of that, I refused to except that Tyson was really beaten by Douglas. It was "fixed". Even though Tyson's head almost came off. Yeah, if I have ever seen a fight that wasn't fixed, it was that one. So guess what? Then Tyson lost to Holyfield. So then that fight was fixed. I was a nut, but only a kid. And it was more denial than anything else. Back then, I would have rather think that Mike Tyson threw a fight instead of actually losing one.
Farmer is a trip, but he's never ****ed with me, so I grant him a pass....:good But I hear EXACTLY what you are saying........ I do....:thumbsup Trust me, NOBODY gives a flying **** about bull**** like I do......:-( MR.BILL:deal
A bloke told me that Lenny McClean would've beaten Ali,Foreman and Frazier in a street fight and I believed him. Then I actually saw footage of Lenny fighting and realised that in the ring or in the street Ali,Foreman and Frazier would've KO'd him in about 10 seconds.
I remember a discussion I had with my mate when I was about ten or something, where we both agreed our dads could knock out Prince Naseem because he was only little.
For years as a kid I walked around thinking that Michael Moorer was the name of - not a respectable two-division titlist and maybe best LHW of his era - but rather, the #1 or 2 LHW of all time and a top p4p ATG. This was due to the close phonetic proximity of Moorer to Moore (and, apparently, my youthful habit of completely ignoring first names...since "Archie" and "Michael" are nothing alike :blood).
