I was discussing boxing the other day with a friend and we were wondering when do you think a typical fighter is over the hill physically? Meaning just his physical attributes such as speed start to decline. Obviously there are exceptions, but what age would you suspect that it typically starts to? I was thinking maybe 28 or 30 a fighter starts to lose a tiny bit of speed normally and stamina follows suit sooner or later. What do you think?

Would depend on their style and how much they have fought and punishment they have taken and so on etc ... well you get the idea it's all relative.

I am thinking like 32. 28-32 seems to be when most fighters are at their absolut best.

I think it depends how they look after themselves. I would say early 30's in most cases but it could be later or earlier depending on their training habits and lifestyle.

exactly. it also depends on the weight class. heavyweights peak between 28-32, whereas featherweights do so much earlier from 23-26. power is the usually the last thing to do which is why foreman lasted so long and why people held out hope for tyson. reflexes seem to go first and QUICKLY. when roy jones lost his reflexes, he did so virtually overnight, same as ray leonard

Look at B-Hop, the man is 44 and lives like a freaking Bhuddist monk, and has a physique of someone half his age

I think B-Hop drain magic energy from younger boxers thats why he is so fit, but thats just my theory :p.

  12. Depends on the fighter and genetics -- Tyson peaked at only 22, Hops peaked at 40...
    Average is around 33 for heavy's and 27 for lighter guy's ..

Hops peaked in the late 90s this bull**** about him peaking at 40 is comical, as for HWs they tend to be able to fight into thier early 30s but I would say they peak at about age 30, Frazier, Tyson, Ali, Foreman, Patterson, and Louis were all better in thier younger days IMO. Lewis was the only HW I've seen get better past 30.

When they can't pull the trigger like they used to....

A person's physical prime can be said to be over when they s imply cannot do the things they once did.
