His defences have been below par of late.

In the last two years he's not faced anyone of any real quality. His best opponents are Fonfara, Bika and Karpency who are all tune up type fights.

He's the champion of the division and deservedly so, but it is about time he stepped up his competition again.

 

To be fair, Fonfara was a good win. Needs to fight Kovalev though.

The last two years of Stevenson's championship reign have been very poor.

 

Kovalev blew out an undefeated Cleverly who was on a run of wins which included Bellew himself, so I don't agree with that. Pascal wins were good, Hopkins win was still good, and especially how he did it.

 

So have Kovalev's. Fighting Pascal for a second time was a total embarrassment.

He bludgeoned him first time. Then he fights him again after he gets his ass whooped and wins by robbery against no name Yunieski Gonzalez:-(

That win isn't worth any more than the Bika win.

Kovalev is merely the number 1 contender to his crown, and a deserved one I'm sure you agree.

He's a number 1 contender I'd favour to beat Stevenson but that doesn't change that Stevenson is the champ and need holding to a higher standard.

 

Stevenson leaving HBO to fight on Showtime after agreeing to fight Kovalev = Stevenson ducked Kovalev. Fact. Stevenson also ducked every top 5 light heavyweight he fought NO ONE except for shot to shyte Chad Dawson who was beaten by Tommy Karpency afterwards. Pimp is even ducking the "ghost of Pascal" which would be a big fight in Canada he would rather fight someone who flat out quit against shot Campillo.

Bellew was a bum at 175 because he cut too much weight. Cleverly beat him, he got a gift draw against Chilemba. He is better at cruiserweight now. Stevenson's resume is awful plus he got destroyed by Darnell Boone in 2 rounds.

Kovalev is the #1 unified Champ in the division. He is to be held to the higher standard.

 

He wanted to build up some wins first. Then he was willing. But then Krusher was not.

Both ducked each other at different points of their careers.

Krusher and HBO had Stevenson right there in front of them and they walked. Afraid Al would beat then in the purse bids and they didn't have the confidence in sending Sergey over there to pull off the win.
