If you want to try mimicking a boxer, I think its better to mimic amateur boxers like Vasyl Lomachenko because those guys really have to basics perfected and actually fight using them.
I think your style evolves pretty slowly. It's deviations from the basics, not ignorance of them. A lot of boxing is muscle memory and instinct, and the only way to gain that is to put the hours in. Most amateurs are pretty well rounded, because without being able to pick your fights and matchups you need a good command of all the essentials. When you turn pro, you can spend weeks working full time in a training camp preparing to fight a specific way against a specific guy. When you start out it's more important to be able to hold your own first, then develop and evolve. But it must be natural, not premeditated.
