For stealing his style? Am joking, but seriously iy pisses me off that Watson never gets the credit he deserves for being the template for the peek a boo defence. And he done it much better than Winky too. Agree?
Obviously the peek-a-boo defense goes back long before Watson. I liked Watson though. Especially liked watching him school Benn.
i can see were you are coming from but michael was more limited interms of variety of punches. Winky is also a better jabber then michael was. I was there in both eubank fights and sure he was very good at the defensively but IMPO winky is more superior. I think possibly michael had more punching power?
i know previously Power punchers used that style, cos it was a come forward style. In the modern era, i mean, Watson does it a bit better than Winky. Watson sacrificed defence for attack more that Wright does. Watson's DNA is all over WInky's style, even the way he throws a jab. i dont know any fighters who've used that style before them. Points to anybody who remembers?
Watson did it ****ing good but not as good as Winky. Winky is probably the best ever at it. Winky is better simply because he is more defensively minded. Watson came out of his full guard with all sort of power shots and this ultimately hurt his defence. Was the reward worth the risk? Well it got him a ko over Benn and should have beaten Eubank in the rematch (it is hard to believe otherwise). He lost to McCallum but McCallum could maybe open up Winkys defence. I think he probably could.
