Will he deeply regret not fighting in America earlier in his career?

I watched the Hopkin's fight again the other day, and I compared it to watching Calzaghe at Cardiff Ice Rink, which I did back in about 2004.

What a contrast. I'm sure if he had gone to the States earlier in his career he would have fought many times over there.

When he looks back over his career will this gnaw at him, or will it not bother him at all?

It depends how important his undefeated record is to him. If he'd fought the top Americans he'd probably have a couple of losses on his record but I expect he'd have made more money and be more popular. He'd also no doubt have a few decent victories too.

As long as he doesn't go broke or totally lose his marbles, I doubt he'll have any regrets. Tough to ask for a better career.

He won't regret it because he truly thinks he's played it well. He also truly thinks that he's done as much as he could to get fights in the USA, but that the establishment and circumstances were against him.

As long as he keeps that "0", he'll be happy and proud of what he's achieved! Who can blame him! He became the undisputed Champion at 168, beating a very good proven unified Champ in his prime in the process, putting in an amazing performance against Lacy and getting the better of a very intelligent, experienced Hopkins, in the USA.

    Not bad at all.

Who are these top Americans he should have fought then? :huh

I dont think itll effect how joe is viewed, he did go to the states and beat one of their best, home is where the heart is and given time his underrated resume will recieve universal respect.

i'm sure he will regret it when its all said and done because his name will get lost when people discuss ATGs. People in America would have a higher opinion of Joe had they seen him fight in his prime against "good" competition.

'At the end' of the day its who and how you beat guys thats important, rather than where you beat them...

Beating Lacy in front of the Americans would have looked sweet but would they have sold 20,000 tickets...?

Will Toney, RJJ or BHOP regret never fighting in the UK where they could have experienced crowds of 55,000 plus and the satisfaction of beating a named opponent on their home turf? No.

So why should JC have any regrets?

He states himself he has BIG regrets in his boxing career about not making the Olympics.

Even he himself admits his boxing career isn't perfect along with the respect he had for RJJ and how he might have lost.

I doubt there is a single person on earth who doesn't have "any regrets".

America is a bigger market, bigger market = more exposure, more exposure =more people aware of your "greatness"

So your saying it is not possible for a Non-American fighter to get the same exposure in America fighting a well known American in the UK even with the same TV coverage you would usually get with if the fight was held in the US?

HBO and Showime have covered big fights in other countrys before so whats the difference?

Good point. If that's correct it makes a big difference.

I don't neccesarily mean fighting against American fighters.
