Most boxing rules state that hitting with the antedorsum (the inside of the glove) is a foul. Does Joe do that?, Ive never really analysed it and he punches a bit fast to see. Joes doesnt always slap, his left down the pipe is one of the best around. And so his jab with the right hand. He scores a lot of punches this way. But there are a lot times in his fights where he clearly slaps, I was wondering if people think he slaps with the inside part.
nah,he doesnt slap technically he just opens his hands up a bit more than the normal boxer and hits his hooks with more the tip of his glove rather than just the front of it,it's not technically a slap but he can't sit down on his hooks to allow his throw with the front centre of the glove.
thats why he is called calslappy by people who do not like him. calzaghe clearly does use the inside of the glove when shoeshining. in the amatuers it is frowned upon and in the pros it is commented on, but he never gets pulled on it, IMO because he mixes in straight punches with them and when he throws his slaps they are in fast bursts and foloowed by legal upercuts etc etc if calzaghe was a backfoot jab and single slap fighter he might be called on it. that he is a hybrid/pressure/swarmer/technical boxer with high output type means he has got away with it.
Yes he does, hence the wording slaps, but he has decreased the amount of slaps over the last few years. Against Kessler he almost didn't do it.
No he doesn't do that. What he often does though is he throws punches with little weight transfer or none, little hip rotation or none and with little shoulder mouvement or none. Think of squash -vs- tennis in terms of hitting mechanics and you'll get the picture.
Does his combinations remind you of Leonards? They remind me of Leonards, especially the body combos.
Ok I see what you are saying but you could do all those things and still hit with the inside of the glove. Sam Peter does it from time to time. Disregarding the biomechanics of his punch action, Do you think that he consisently hits with the inside of glove? I wanted to see a few replies before I said what I thought. I cant really see to much evidence of it for it to be considered his primary source of landing shots, he does oftern turn his wrist when throwing those combos. And as I said before he throws a lot of shots with a classic technique aswell.
If by inside of glove you mean with palm and wrist involved, I say no. If you mean with the This content is protected (lol), then I say yes.
If you hit that way then you can only hit with an open glove. Since, if you remove the racket from tennis/Squash/badminton(especially tennis), you are hitting with your front or back side of the hand, and not the knuckles.
That's correct. Please see my 2nd post above which makes a distinction between hitting with the palm and hitting with the joints.

Somewhat, not particularly. Leonard would raise his elbows as his punches followed through whereas Calzaghe tends to lift them as he's throwing punches.
