I just started following the sport about 3years ago. I don't know much about the history apart from records as researched from google, boxrec, etc.

My question is was there any other time in history where a world champion coming off the most impressive win of his career was considered a cherry pick to another fighter in his weight division?

A boxer with 80% knockout ratio?

It just baffles me, cos by implication all this tells me that floyd mayweather is on a different level. I now see why he calls himself TBE.

If the great alli was fighting another champion with a legitimate belt ( not the all pacific strongest champion type belts)' would the words cherry pick be mentioned?

Anyway, like I said, I am new to the sport, maybe you older guys know better.

Thanks for the correction. I thought holding a belt in a division makes you a champion in that division. From what I am made to understand the titlist or belt holders at 147 are.... Floyd, pacquiao, porter and maidana. He chose one of the other three to unify titles and the world calls it a cherry pick?

    Like who?

Thurman. Has beaten no one worth a damn and would be called green if floyd fought him now.

Porter. A better resume than Thurman but would also be called green if floyd fought him now. However he is a champion at 147 I believe.

Bradley. Cold war issue. Just got his ass kicked by Pac.

Pac. The only fight that makes sense, at least on a money perspective, even though he will be called shot once floyd schools him.

Marquez. Really getting old every fight. Lost to Bradley will be fighting Alvarado. Floyd already beat him.

Kell Brook. Still hasn't stepped up in class. Always backs out of big fights. Resume is suspect.

That's pretty much all the names you could say is worth a damn at 147 at the moment.

So in conclusion apart from Pac recent win over tim bradley which brings him back into the mix. Who exactly deserves a fight with floyd mayweather?

Maidana is clearly the front runner, if you take out Pac.:deal

When there are several tougher fights out there and you bear the responsibility of challenges since you call yourself the best ever:

    Martinez
    Pacquaio
    Lara
    Bradley
    Cotto
    Porter
    Thurman
    Ruslan

Pacquiao, Bradley, and Ruslan aren't available because of politics. Would you say they're available for Porter to fight? The answer is no and the reasoning why is the same reasoning for Mayweather.

and Martinez/Cotto was already in negotiations

    Porter just called out pacquaio.
    Broner just called out pacquaio.

The last time mayweather said pacquaios name is when he called him and Bradley amateurs. What does that make maidana ?!
