Loma showed great timing, technique and ring generalship. Poor ol Walters and his corner hadn't a clue on how to solve that riddle! How does someone solve a riddle, wrapped in an enigma shrouded in mystery and spoken in a language you never heard! The only props I can give to Walters is, he didn't try to foul himself out of the fight! Some fighters when they have no answers and are getting humiliated in the fashion Walters was, would low blow, elbow or try to throw their opponent on the ground, but Walters did none of that. He may not have a real fighters character but, he has a decent character anyhow.
Interesting, I agree with you Braindamage. Do you feel the outcome of Tyson/Holyfield 2 was due to Tyson' lack of character based on the fact he would have done anything not to lose by KO again?
Yes! I once heard someone say boxing doesn't give you character, it reveals it! For a fighter of Walters skill level to come to the realization that there was nothing he could do to change the fight and the beating was not only going to continue but, more than likely get worse, must have been very difficult for him to deal with. He had 3 choices, continue on with the beating, foul himself out of the fight or quit. He made the choice that best suited himself and not the fans. At the end of the day, I felt he did the right thing because, if he had started going dirty he would have lost more respect from the fans. Walters will come back from this! I would hate to see him end up like Jeff Lacy after the Calzaghe fight! Walters felt the heat and got out of the kitchen quick, fast and in a hurry! The fight should not be a testament to Walters bravery or manhood but to Lomachenkos sublime skill! I was extremely impressed and Walters was too, I'm sure.
This. He was telling Walters to stay in his corner because the round was ending. A little c0cky but not the gesture people are making it out to be. And not for nothing but it really doesn't take supernatural awareness to know when a round is ending when they've just given the 10 second warning. Just saying....
True... I think. It's easy for me to kinda tell when I'm watching but I can't really recall a fighter that does the same thing. More often I see people throwing shots after the bell. It just looks cool as hell to me when he does it.
Not impressed with the timing of things at the end of the fight. It was easy for Loma to know when the bell was going to ring . When the 10 second warning sounded Loma was hitting Walters every second with a punch. 9 punches and one wave and the bell sounded. Not hard to figure out really.
