I know it was financially, but at the time, was this considered his biggest fight?

No. I would easily rank it below...

    Oscar vs Chavez
    Oscar vs Whitaker
    Oscar vs Trinidad
    Oscar vs Mosley
    Oscar vs Hopkins

I would also rank it below (on level of importance to Oscar's career at the time)....

    Oscar vs Vargas
    Oscar vs Quartey
    Oscar vs Gonzalez
    Oscar vs Ruelas

It wasn't much more important than Oscar vs Mayorga, to be honest. You have to think... Oscar was a decade removed from being fighter of the year. Oscar was a part time fighter ever since his robbery against Tito. Oscar never put the same effort into boxing again.

Oscar vs Mayweather was clearly a mega-fight. However, it was more of a mega-fight by way of the amount of money generated. Oscar was clearly on the far back end of his career, and a win over Mayweather, who many considered too small anyways, wasn't going to send his career in some type of new direction. Had Oscar won, the way the boxing world thought at that time... it would have been written off as Oscar simply being too big for Floyd. Which, is silly... but that's the reality of the situation as it stood back when they fought.

So, obviously a mega-fight. More for money than for importance on Oscar's part though. For Floyd... that fight meant everything.
