Hard to say. With boxers seeming to have more and more longtivity as top notch fighters these days. We may be as much as 5 years away from that point.
There'll always be someone making big PPV numbers. But I think Floyd might be the last real international boxing star for a while. And I think boxing is gonna decline in the coming decades.
I think Andre Ward will dominate our sport a long time. But I also think he's not that crossover star who will appeal to a lot of people, though he'll probably be talked about generally as a great boxer.
Boxing will be fine. The decline of the PPV star would actually be a good thing. Bring the bigger events over to non PPV. PPV stars in big fights that don't live up to the potential is what is killing boxing more than anything
i doubt pac will hold anything more than a candle 5 years down the track, floyd may still be holding a torch though
Boxing is just a big mess at the moment, rarely do we see the best fighting eachother in their respective division. Generally, people are just shitting on the sport of boxing these days, its looked upon as a joke, and rightfully so.
cant agree floyd and pac were listed as easily the two highest paid sportsmen in 2011, which isnt bad for a non-mainstream sport boxing's megastars can stop time when the right fight is made and it puts boxing squarely in the limelight boxing needs its larger than life fighters, taking away PPV would be like relegating brad pitt to tv and asking movies to flourish - people will pay to see big names
they only earn that money because manny and floyd take 80% of the revenue. And because they charge $50 to watch them. They only get 1 and a half million buys. Its not much. I think they earn money cos they rip off the few boxing fans that are left. Not because there's alot of people watching.
someone undeafeted. maybe it will be a big phat rock hard Broner. still game at 135, watch when he goes to 140. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzn1F7GW9I4[/ame] (imagion the white guy is his promoter) they will be looking for the Gatti's and Boldimirs of this era.
Canelo is an obvious pick, same with Ward. Broner is obviously angling for Mayweather's throne, and Gary Russell Jr. has an amazing skill set. I really wouldn't mind boxing not being so top heavy. Spreading the talent and drawing power out has been a trend in boxing over the last two decades, which has led to new fans and new revenue streams throughout the world.
