Saying the Clotty win isn't worth **** is nonsense, IB. That was a legit top 5 Welter who had arguably beaten Cotto in his previous outing and is a much, much bigger man than Pac. Manny shut him out and never let him into the fight. He controlled a good, solid fighter who held a considerabe size advantage over him. Nothing to base greatness on, but it certainly adds something and is worth quite a bit more than '****.' Please, please don't tell me you're one of those, "Clottey threw the fight" kind of guys. That'd be disappointing as hell. The Bradley fight wasn't a shutout by any means but it wasn't a 'scrape-by' decision either. He won clearly and proved he was a flat out better fighter than an undefeated, top 10 P4P opponent in his prime while Manny himself was already past his own. These are good wins, man, and they add to his legacy.
Fair enough, IB. I tend to see Hatton and Cotto as being a confirmation of greatness and taking it to the next level rather than making him great in the first place, which the work at 130 and below had already done. And Bradley is a pretty decent plus on anyone's record at 140 or 147. Personally, I think at least some credit is due for the Clottey win, even if the way Clottey performed leaves a bad taste in the mouth (then again, that's Clottey being Clottey) and regardless of how average Margarito is without loaded wraps, if anyone else won that fight with that size disadvantage, they'd get a lot more credit. Pac gets held to a higher standard, (somewhat justifiably, as the best in the sport are supposed to be held to a higher standard and prove it against the best) but I think it's not a worthless win.
I've noticed (since Pacquiao's lost?) that you're in every Pacquiao's related thread trying to discredit him. While I usually disagree with his nuthuggers, I think you are pushing it too far. You keep saying 130 and then BS. While there was some really bs fights (Clottey, Margarito, Mosley) I think Hatton, Bradley (yeah) and Cotto are very good wins. DLH is in another category. Most people were fooled (me included) thinking he would do better (I still picked Pac by UD).
We are basically in agreement, if you feel that way about Margarito/Clottey/Mosley/DLH. I don't entirely discount Hatton and have said numerous times (since it happened) that Cotto is a good W. What I'm arguing is that he already had greater ones when he was lighter and in his prime. Namely MAB I and the Morales rematch. What more do you want?
Ok. Less extreme than " it's been one long dog and pony show (over 130)". None of these wins are great, but I definitely think Hatton, Bradley and Cotto ADD to his greatness.
Yes. They add to, but don't make/define it. He already had made/defined his greatness by then. (which I don't think is really a "hater" thing to say, is it?) The statement then should be "largely a dog and pony show", referencing the likes of Diaz/Clottey/Margarito/Mosley/DLH and two gifts over Marquez, which numerically do overshadow the 3 solid wins (1 unofficial) that he's enjoyed in that time period.
Well now you say it adds but before "Nothing since his lightweight pitstop contributes to "greatness"" Contributes...adds.... Anyway, I'ts all good. You just make it sound like that (hater) sometimes. I think that like a lot of people here, you are so annoyed by the extreme nuthuggers that you tend to focus on "beating" them instead of focusing on what the fighter have really done.
You perform a valuable service here, and I'm grateful for your RBRs. However your scoring has been extremely erratic lately IMO. Regarding Pac Bradley, there were more 11-1 for Pac on the press row cards, than 7-5 + draw + Bradley win combined. So I'd say yours is a fringe view on this. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Manny_Pacquiao_vs._Timothy_Bradley
I thought the fight against Bradley was fairly close. Way more competitive than what most people saw. IMO
Agreed. Though I think the early rounds of the last JMM fight he looked even better than Clottey, he was looking like the Cotto version.
