2004 Barrera-Morales 3(should have gone to Trinidad-Mayorga or Pacquiao-Marquez 1) 2003 Gatti-Ward 3(Should have gone to Toney-Jirov) 1999 Ayala-Tapia 1(Jefferson-Harris,Vargas-Wright,Maskaev-Rahman 1 and Corrales-Garcia were all better) 1997 Gatti-Ruelas(Phillips-Tszyu and Hamed-Kelley were better) 1996 Holyfield-Tyson 1(Bowe-Golota 2,Gatti-Rodriguez and Barrera-Mckinney were all MUCH better fights) 1995 Sorjatarong-Gonzalezlol: Benn-Mcclellan should have got this hands down) 1986 Cruz-Mcguigan(Hagler-Mugabi or Chavez-Rosario) 1977 Foreman-Young(Saad Muhammed-Johnson 1 was miles better)Foreman-Young was actually a boring fight.
A great fight to me is a competitive fight. Trinidad vs Mayorga was not competitive, and although Marquez vs Pacquiao 1 had fantastic drama, the pace slowed significantly after the opening round. I think they got it right. Both were great fights, but Toney vs Jirov was slightly better. Agreed. Not seen any of those. I think Hamed vs Kelley is overrated, personally. Barrera vs Mckinney should have gotten the nod. Agreed. For obvious reasons, Benn vs Mcclellan didn't get an award. Haven't seen Cruz-Mcquigan in full. Not seen Foreman/Young.
2003 should have been either Toney-Jirov or Gomez-Arthur. 1996 was one of the worst. Holyfield-Tyson 1 wasn't even a top 5 fight that year. Barrera-Mckinney, Bowe-Golota 2, Gatti-Rodriguez...take your pick. Liles-Littles 2 and Kelley-Gainer 1 were also better than the overrated Holyfield-Tyson 1. 1978 was another poor choice. Spinks-Ali 1? Over Curry-Brooks? Holmes-Norton? Saad-M. Johnson I not getting FOTY was insane.
I really enjoyed the second half of Spinks-ALI 1.Holmes-Norton was a good boxing match before it exploded into an all out war in the last three rounds.
Barrera-McKinney was better than Tyson-Holyfield I, Morales-Barrera III was better than Pac-JMM I & Holmes-Norton was better than Ali-Spinks I. Ps. Does anyone know which fight got FOTY for 1982... it should have been Chacon-Limon IV but I heard somewhere it was Arguello-Pryor I, does anyone know ? Botswana :smoke
Holyfield-Tyson was by far the most significant fight of 1996, a stunning upset at the time. It was the clear choice and the right choice.
1986. What got it: Cruz v McGuigan. What should have got it: Honeyghan-Curry 1978. What got it: Spinks v Ali. What should have got it: Holmes v Norton. 1969. What got it: Frazier v Quarry. What should have got it: Napoles v Cokes

You're totally wrong about 1986 Hagler-Mugabi,Holyfield-Qawi and Chavez-Rosario were all better than Honeyghan-Curry
