This is one of the reasons why title defenses don't mean much to me. The organisations are useless and so are their belts.

HBO back in the late 90's tried to cut out the sanctioning bodies. They wanted to get the boxing writers to put together their own ranking system, but they needed the top fighters to jump on board, but the refused and that is why nothing really improves in boxing.

If he dumped the WBO title he could of kept the WBA. His management will have known this. It didn't just happen to Michalczewski, it happened to Hamed too when he faced WBA champion Vazquez.

If Virgil Hill has a mandatory for July, he shouldn't be facing Michalczewski in June and the winner shouldn't be expecting to keep the belt.

In truth Michalczewski's management didn't want to face mandatories. That's the only reason for picking the WBO over the WBA, they don't enforce mandatories in the same way. If Michalczewski had mandatories they would goto purse bids and Universum might lose the purse bid to an American promoter. No way Universum wanted that.

We know that it wouldn’t have happened.

A 36 year old guy with hand issues who wouldn’t let Canelo weigh-in at 154, wouldn’t have fought a young version of Roy at 154.

    Can you not grasp that?

He tried to weaken Canelo by demanding a 152 C-W, yet he’d have fought a much bigger and more dangerous fighter at the limit?

    No.

Despite where they were ranked, Floyd would never have beaten any version of Roy from the early 90’s.

He couldn’t have outboxed him and he couldn’t have outfought him.

You have thrown all logic out of the window and just focused on the stats.

    Hi mate.

    I hope you're good.

I've read what you have written about this matter.

I agree with what you're saying now, this fight would never happen.

    Cheers mate.

Why do you keep repeating yourself about how Roy would have beaten Floyd at 154?

We get it, Roy would have beaten him.

HBO didn’t always take his side publicly. We know that. Especially with the Frazier debacle.

Seth Abraham did hold Roy responsible, but Lou DiBella, Mark Taffet and Kerry Davis all supported him at various parts of his career.

They also kept offering him contract renewals where he fought on the network for many years.

Regarding Liles, on air, HBO stated that Liles had been offered a 7 figure sum to fight Roy, despite never being paid that in his career. And afterwards, DiBella supported what they’d said to the media. And to my knowledge, neither Liles or his camp ever refuted what had been said.

Regarding Roach, we know that Roy beat Liles twice in the amateurs and that HBO said that he did try and unify the SMW titles.

Regarding O’Halloran, I have no reason not to believe him. Not when he was so angry and frustrated with Liles’ actions. He said that they had a great fight lined up and that Frankie blew it by going back and asking for more money. If Roy had only offered him peanuts, why wouldn’t he have said so? He was convinced that Frankie had the beating of him.

The comments of both O’Halloran and HBO is enough evidence for me, especially as the Liles camp didn’t refute it.

To my knowledge, Frank Warren never managed Frankie. And the pre-Brandon interview which was conducted in October, covered the months leading up to that.

Regarding his opponents receiving $1m, I’d have to do some research as it’s been a long time since I looked at the purses. I believe that Paz was paid $1m plus though. Also, a unification fight would have been bigger than an average fight.

This seems right to me. And I’m sure that he was paid $5m for the Tarver fights, and definitely the final one.

You can understand why $5m didn’t tempt him to go to Germany to fight Dariusz.

I wouldn’t have said that a guy like Reggie was just average opposition.

Floyd fought far more high profile names. But in terms of quality, I don’t think that most of them were on another level to Roy’s best LHW opponents.

I’ve heard that other champs of the time were also stripped.

Dariusz never seemed fazed by any of it to me.

He seemed more than content to milk the WBO belt in Germany.

    Look at you.

Having to tone down the insults so you don’t get banned for the 3rd time in as many months.

    Ha!
