He was intimidated and knew he was in for a beatdown, but i though he would put up a better fight than he did???:-( That was an UGLY performance by Peter.:verysad
I know these guys are professionals and have seen it all before but the truth is that they are not impervious to losing mental wars that take place before fights. Whatever Vitali was doing seemed to be working as Sam Peter seemed to be very uncomfortable in his presence. Many fighters contend that often times the words that are exchanged before a fight (or the punches in the case of Bowe/Donald) are just as valuable as the first punch thrown in the fight. It seemed as though Vitali had gotten to Peter and I believe more and more that Shannon Briggs got to Liakhovich before their fight.
Did you ever consider that Vitali's jab being pumped in Peter's face, and his straight right hand, landing so often, was the REASON why Peter seemd to put in a bad performance? Its rediculous how, on this forum, when a fighter gets beaten, and the better man PREVENTS him from being effective, some of you guys dismiss the better fighter's offensive work preventing the other fighter from doing anything, by saying, Well, he didn't try.........or, He put on his worst performance tonight! :-( Peter tried. Peter was Peter. Its just that Vitali's skill and power PREVENTED Peter from getting anywhere in the fight. Good GOD, give credit where its due. Ever heard of the term, cause and effect? Peter looked bad cause who he was in there with, period. But Peter tried as he always does, but Vitali's skill and size thwarted Peter's attempts to land, try as he did.
I still wonder waht Vitali said to Ivalo after the fight. It looked like he was bitching him out like a little step-child.
I agree with you but the nature of the sport is very cruel and unforgiving. Samuel Peter was up against it that night. I do believe that the atmosphere was rough but it is, afterall, Vitali's house so they're not gonna roll out a red carpet for Samuel Peter. The press conferences and the crowd were enough. Not sure the holograms made any difference though as Peter was tucked away in the dressing room when they were being displayed. Had he seen them from the ring it may have made an already-hostile situation seem to be that much more difficult to deal with. How about if the fight was held in Nigeria? Any thoughts?
Peter was following Klitchko around like a zombie. Hands frozen eating shots he was walking straight into. He has no ideal how to fight a taller man who can fight going backwards. I am impressed with Vitalli's performance his footwork was good but his punches did not have much behind them and his hand speed was not great. Peter made things very easy with his fight plan. Straight ahead looking for one big punch. His punch output was very poor and he don't move his head. Decent fight but Peter got discouraged way to easily for a champion. He looked like a sparing partner after the first few rds. The fight went pretty well how I thought it would. Peter looked very vulnerable against Maskaev who was getting in some good shots even though his trimming and hand speed were not there. Dito for Mcline, if he would not have turtled when Peter started walking him down after Mcline knocked him down Mcline would have been champion. Only Toney made him look good in their second fight. Clearly James is shot, to suggest otherwise is being nice but not realistic. IMo Peters only salvation is a big knockout soon. My pick would be Ruiz. Peter could loose this fight but if he cannot power his way past Ruiz he goes to the club circuit. I do not think Vitalli beat a average champion .IMO he beat a below average champion. His next fight may be a better match up but who knows. I think Gomez or Haye would give Vitalli a chance to look a bit better. Peter needs a lot of work both mentally and technically. It may not be over for him yet if he gets hooked up with the right people.
