He's more than ready now but with usyk v aj rumoured to be March/April, and then a possible undisputed fight, you're looking at early 2023
With 2 champions fighting only once or twice a year and destined to meet each other it’s a terrible time to be a heavyweight contender. Factor in rematch clauses, and guys like Joe could be waiting years
Yes it does depend on whether the undisputed fight happens between USYK (or AJ) and FURY. If Usyk wins the rematch then Joyce would get his shot in late 2022. As I think Fury avoids Usyk. Despite what many people think, I don’t think Fury wants that fight. But if AJ wins the rematch and then walks away. I think Fury is well up for that and then Joyce needs to wait until quarter 1 to quarter 2 of 2023. But what if AJ has another rematch clause on it? Then Joyce may even have to wait until late 2023…possibly even early 2024!
Joyce has the 2 ingredients that AJ lacks chin and endurance, he might be somewhat ponderous but if he could ride the storm early on he would a very hard night for AJ. Apart from Fury I would have Joyce a slight favourite over the rest of British heavyweights.
It’s a big ask for him to get a shot soon, as you’ve got Usyk tied up rewatching AJ (with potential for a trilogy depending on how that goes), Fury is likely to box Whyte or someone in the WBC arena and then you’re looking at another year or so if the undisputed fight happens. Joyce needs to be taking risky big fights now, just so he can earn a few quid whilst he’s on the shelf - like Chisora / Parker winner, Luis Ortiz or even a Rivas character.
With Whyte v Wallin off, Warren could easily make Fury v Joyce now as a WBC voluntary defence in early 2022. Huge fight in the U.K. but does Fury risk an undisputed fight with such a hard nights work?
He’ll be waiting a long time if I was him I’d target one of those lesser titles that charr or Bryan have for now
