....how much of an impact can it have on that fighter's legacy in terms of all-time greatness as a fighter and all-time greatness as a welterweight. Going by memory, if I recall from the welterweight survey, Mosley appeared on a handful of lists, Mayweather appeared on one, and Pacquiao none (but I think Pac had just had the DLH fight at the time). Say that, the winner of Mosley-Mayweather faces Pac, and maybe some kind of weird round robin emerges or something? Or how do you think things might unfold given certain circumstances pertaining to these three. If Shane beats Floyd and Pac, what does that do for him? If Floyd beats Shane and Pac? If Pac beats Floyd and Shane? Very interested in hearing some of your thoughts and how some of you would rank the historical significance of these three pairing off in some manner. Thanks in advance.
If Shane does it he'll be top 50. If Floyd does it maybe top 40-ish. If Manny does it he'd be something like top 15.
Whoever runs the table is the clear cut fighter of his generation and the best since Whitaker IMO. Incredible legacy builder especially for Floyd who talks as if he is a god. Beating both would make his argument hold at least some validity.
Pacquiao would be above Duran if he beats both and i'd enjoy arguing that with Robertards. Floyd, will get unfair dues, Pac will be a blown up fly, and Mosley will be old as ****. I don't think he'd crack the top 25 on most lists. Mosley already has incredible depth in his opposition, winning many top level fights but losing twice each, to two hard counters, which really hurts him. At his age, beating these two i think places him top 30 atleast. I also think it drops floyds stock about 10 places and pacquiaos 2 or 3. For me personally, in my pro-footage list. They all make the top 10 if they beat the other two.
The problem with these "what if X beats Y" threads is that they're heavily dependent on the manner of the victory. If Mosley and Mayweather both look like absolute **** against each-other and both wind up fighting Pacquiao, who then scrapes past them by narrow decisions? What if they both look like "a million dollars", and Pacquiao destroys them, whipping out a whole new toolbox as he does so? Wins aren't just about who you beat: it's about how dominantly you beat who you beat, what kind of state they were in, and the ability you showed in doing so. Those are things that we won't know about until the fights happen, so it's impossible to come up with anything more than a pointlessly vague estimation of the possible effects of these fights on a guy's record - a range which may well overlap the region each fighter is thought to be in now; Pacquiao might stay around Top 20 ATG, which some argue he's already attained.
You really think so? If Pacquiao beats Mayweather and Mosley (a very tall order), I think it would be a pretty easy case to make.
Yeah, maybe, IF he does so ....... and eventually most reasonable-minded people would come to see that Pacquiao and Duran are comparable. BUT it depends really, what happens in the Mosley-Mayweather fight. If, say, Mayweather beats Mosley clearly and makes him look like an old washed-up fighter there wouldn't be much credit to be had by Pac beating Mosley too. Mosley and Mayweather gave more to gain in that regard. Anyway, Pacquiao wont fight Mayweather because he's scared of giving blood.
Pac will be considered better than Robinson in the eyes of some dickheads on here if he beats just one of these guys. With that said... I wont grudge the man a top 10 place if he beats the winner of that fight, personally. Floyd & Shane will likely need both names & one more quality win preferably at a higher weight to crack some top 10 lists.... might be harder for Shane because of a couple of decisive losses & too many close wins were he has looked like ****... Floyd has been utterly dominant in about 38/40 fights thru 5 divisions, that will score heavily when judging greatness.
