When someone hero fighter gets smashed why do a fewpeople react by saying "X never really beat Y" ?

To me the Tyson fight did more to elevate LL. I remember when it happened I was pretty peeved at George for yelling LL was the greatest right after that fight, since Mike was probably something like eight years (or more) past his prime. Then I realized LL was actually older than Mike, and gave a completely dominating performance, beating Mike worse than perhaps anyone.

 

Denial, there’s a huge amount of it on these boards. People get so emotionally invested in fighters, they can’t bear to admit their guy lost, or the guy they hate won. It’s all incredibly childish.

Canelo-GGG II has to be the worst example of this, people refusing to accept GGG was clearly beaten. It’s an interesting phenomenon, a kind of mass delusion.

 

I guess you could debate it like that but I feel Lewis aged well and Tyson fell off a cliff. Still a good scalp but you could argue that lots of guys would have beaten that version of Tyson. That's why I feel the Vitali win is so important for Lewis' legacy. There's no question of Lewis cherrypicking faded versions of opponents, because HE was the faded version.

 

Great point. I probably just need to get onboard completely with the Lewis-won-on-paper thing. It's just whenever I watch that fight I get bummed when it's stopped. I don't think Lewis would have gone 12 rounds otherwise. Just me (and understand that I like LL better than K.)

Well I'm a Klitschko fanboy and I thought Lewis had nothing left. I was expecting a stoppage through sheer exhaustion. That said, LL just had his best round and a good case can be made that if he did have something in the tank Vitali's face would have come clean off. There's a lot of sour grapes about the whole story but what can't be denied is that Vit's face was gruesome and that you can't fault the doc for stopping it. Maybe in 1890 the fight would have gone on until somebody's spine got ripped out, but not today

 

Oh I had no problem with the stoppage, I felt terrible for Klitschko. LL was indeed looking better...not that much better imo.

That said, considering LL's age...impressive imo. I believe K. was no spring chicken, either.

That was bizarre to say the least, although it was interesting to see people having a meltdown when they realised Joshua himself wasn’t upset by the loss. It went from joy that he’d lost to anger that he wasn’t upset about it.

Are there reasons to believe that he did? Yes.
That's litterally the definition of a conspiracy theory.

It might be blatant in your eyes. But it isn't confirmed or been punished by an official, therefore the win stands. Same with Mayweather's win.

1. If Floyd was punished, I'd be all over it. But he wasn't. So it's not a free pass coz by official reports he didn't do anything.
2. If Marquez KOed Floyd I'd be happy for him, he's my favourite fighter between the two. Also hiring a trainer isn't confirmed cheating. If someone hired Lewis that doesn't instantly mean there hands are wrapped
3. You say that like I give no credit to Pacquiao. My criteria for rankings is based on wins, Pacquiao has excellent wins and is a top 30 ATG.
Mayweather just has better wins, but that can change if Pacquiao beats litterally one more top fighter

And with all your conspiracies and bull**** about Mayweather and Marquez you refuse to acknowledge that Thurman Pacquiao had no testing. Or a good dozen other high level Pacquiao fights
