Yes, I was extremely nervous-I lost my first fight because I had an anxiety attack. Nerves will ALWAYS affect performance if you let it; learning to control nerves is one of the most important things you can do. Experience and just learning what works to keep you calm but ready. But yes, nerves affect me quite a bit sometimes too.
Breathing exercises. And steroids. But mainly breathing. If you work on deep breathing exercises it induces a number of phyisological effects that will offset the symptoms of anxiety. It works for me really well.
Take a look at any of Kolya's fights on youtube. When you see him in the corner, he has his back to the ring, i.e. he is facing the corner. While you may think he is talking to his coach he's actually having a quick wank - proven scientifically to relax the nerves.
That's why Kolya has that pissed off look on his face when he comes out to box. It's not the will to win, but rather the cuts on his manhood from the gloves bothering him.
Listen to music. Jump rope. Shadow box. Dont watch any other fights. Go over your gameplan. Come up with a reason as to why you want to hurt him worse than he's going to hurt you. Stay focused and busy, try not to overthink it or you will lose the fight before it even starts.
So in your opinion its not good to watch any fights that have music in it? Even if they are highlights?
well, i have a buddy who watched one of our friends get KOed right before his fight. He lost the mental part of his fight right there. Just focus on your fight and no one elses. Listen to music that gets you amped, on an ipod or something.
