When SRL beat Hagler, one judge had it 118-110.

I had it 116-112 SRL.....most people thought SRL won that fight.
Hagler was slow and looked old

    There were loads of complaints.
Those of us around in 1987 remember it.

    I certainly haven't forgotten it.
In fact, on Sunday morning I started a thread entitled: "I see they dusted off the old "Jo Jo Guerra" card for the big fight"
That thread was merged into the Adelaide Byrd thread.

    I wrote:

I'm guessing it's been hanging proudly on Ray Leonard's wall the last 30 years.
Oscar De La Hoya must have borrowed it for the occasion. Changed the names and slipped it to Adelaide Byrd,
"Use this one, trust me, no one will notice."

    118-110, that timeless classic.

They were outraged all right back then, including me... Two completely different fights as mark ant states ... but a 118-110 scorecard had no place in either fight.. Whether corruption, strong bias going in, or whatever you want to call it.. Basically Byrd and Guerra are both on the same island alone

So much that he quit boxing...

I don't know why, but I have a feeling that if there was instant connectivity at the time with forums and media outlets like we do now, maybe he wouldn't retire like he did...

Google is your friend. New York Times April 6, 1987:
Hagler accused the judges of ''giving it to Leonard.''

''I'm in Vegas, it's a gambling city,'' said Hagler, who was attempting to defend his title successfully for the 13th time since winning it from Alan Minter in Septemer 1980. ''But it's still the best place to have held the fight.''

He thought that giving the decision to the challenger - JoJo Guerra scored it 118-110 for Leonard and Dave Moretti had it 115-113 for Leonard - was a way for the boxing world ''to keep me in the game,'' he said. This was an allusion to Hagler's having stated that this might be his last fight. 'I Can't Beleive It'
    ...
Although he said that he felt the boxing world wanted him to lose in order to set up a rematch with Leonard, he didn't add what his plans were, if, indeed, he knew them at this time.

So you're halfway between the outlier 118-110 and the average of the other scores (115-113,113-115) for SRL vs Hagler.

Well I'm about halfway between the outlier 118-110 and the average of the other scores (113-115,114-114) thinking it was about 115-113 or 116-112 for Canelo vs Triple G.

Obviously there's big differences between the two fights, but in terms of the scoring it's very similar. Also in terms of stylistically, there are similarities as well. Hagler was coming forward vs SRL, SRL was fighting off the backfoot.

Hagler was 1 month away from turning 33 years old. SRL was one month away from 31 years old. (but Remember SRL had only fought 1 fight since 1982, that's nearly 5 full years with only a single fight in '84 before fighting Hagler)

So SRL did have somewhat of an age advantage over Hagler. Another similarity is that you said Hagler looked slow and old. Well many have said that Triple G has looked older and past his prime both on Saturday and in his last fight vs Jacobs. So there are a lot of similarities here, both to how the fight was fought and the perception of both fighters.

Guerra did get a lot of criticism, and deservedly so IMO. Leonard-Hagler was a very close fight, one that I scored even.

No. Google their name. I’m pretty sure there was some displeasure from the media about him.

both fights were eerily similar. GGG coasting and not throwing anything with conviction. Hagler pulling punches and shoe shining.

There was that kind of exact outrage. There wasn't Internet.

There are a lot of similarities between both fights. Score cards were almost identical. The decision was controversial. Leonard ran(way more than Canelo vs GGG) and clinched through most of the fight. I had Hagler and GGG winning their respective fights but both were close.

Canelo/GGG was a more watchable fight.

Would be interesting to hear Leonard and Hagler's take on Canelo/GGG.

There was outrage but I'm sure there would have been a lot more if Hagler were a big time promoted fighter with a history of bad scorecards and an easy to use outlet for everyone to voice their opinion.

Guerra's scorecard was widely (and correctly) excoriated at the time. And he was pretty much blacklisted from judging from that point forward.

Also, a lot of observers thought Hagler deserved the win over SRL.

Edit: I see he actually did judge a number of world title fights after that; but mostly lower profile championship bouts overseas for a couple of years before he started getting higher profile fights again.
