May I ask who your old fella is?

Agree 100 % with this, 1 champion per weight class, would certainly help the British and European belts gain some prestige back. One thing that drives me crazy is the whole interim/reg/super situation aswell, it is bad enough having 4!!

That's what I thought when the IBF came out. It was like, not another one. Little did I know what the future held for us.

Your right, you had over the years the NBA, NYAC, European versions which could be what the WBC is now even though it's based in Mexico. Back in the real old days thgere were even Australian versions of the world title. It really started getting out of hand though round the turn of the 70's with the WBC and WBA. Now though it's not just the amount of governing bodies it's the fact that they have different claimants in them. It's getting ridiculous.

Absolutely. Ali for instance fought Frazier and Norton for the NABF title. Can you imagine a boxer of his caliber doing that now? I'm not saying the title specifically meant anything to Ali, but for the most part being a national title holder carried some weight before. Not anymore.

I can generally see both sides of the argument in any situation, but how can having so many belts and champions be good for the sport?

AlFrancis made no secret of it, and there are many threads (throughout the years) where he gives his and his Dad's thoughts on some of Rudkin's fights.

Give it a search, it is a very good read.
