in sum, he's a near-perfect ambassador for this troubled sport:

he's a gentleman and a legitimate role model--he doesn't beat up women, he doesn't sue his promoters, etc

he has alien power in both hands but also extraordinary boxing skill

he's paid his dues: over 350 amateur fights, world amateur gold, olympic silver

he doesn't disparage his opponents

his fights are exciting to watch

he immediately accepts all of his mandos (across every one of his four MW titles)

his record is 37-0 and he has fought everyone--the best fighters willing to get in the ring with him ​

he's not a drug cheat--one of the first in VADA and submits tests even when his opponents don't

who cares? We all know that GGG will never have a fight that will compete financially with Mayweather vs MacGregor, but what does that mean?

no question that GGG will never make as much money as Mayweather. Again, so what, there's also no question that GGG will never enter the ring accompanied by the Burger King mascot.

 

If the numbers don't break the Jr ppv numbers then it looks worse on canelo than it does on GGG.

We know GGG is a beast who doesn't do the good numbers his ability deserves. Happens a lot of eastern european fighters unfortunately.

But Canelo claims to be the no.1 star in the sport. If he can't do over 1 million ppv buys in his career defining fight, then he's not much of a star is he?

 

GGG isn't a draw and with or without PBF-Mcgregor that fight was never going to touch 1 million PPV buys. It will probably do 800K at best Canelo will damn near have to carry the PPV himself.

There are 23000 Kazakhs in the US. Of course he is not a draw. Boxing sucks in the US, compared to the UFC it's as big as icehockey in Europe. As long as they are no hardcore fans, no non-Mexican viewer is going to pay for this fight.

You say canelo has to carry it himself so I guess this fight will do 200,000 buys because those are the numbers canelo makes when he carries ppvs himself like what he did vs smith for Kirkland and lara he did 300,000

Canelo has a huge following and a ton of haters and he's not the favourite to win. This fight will do well because ggg poses a huge threat.

 

There is a possibility this fight doesnt outsell Canelo Chavez Jr. But what does that tell us? It tells us that the hispanic fanbase knew Chavez Jr (primarily from his father). There are many Mexicans that bought Canelo Chavez that have no clue who GGG is.
