It is often mentioned that if Roy jones retired after Tarver 1 he would be thought as one of the greates of all time.

However because what has happened since, he is not mentioned in that bracket.

However no other fighter's greatness are affected by hanging on to the sport too long. Robinson suffered many defeats at the end of his career, as did Chaves. Ali and Leonard also. Yet it doesn't affect them.

Another thing to note is every fighter that has been voted Ring Magazine Fighter of the decade is in the top 25 of all time.

When he's retired and the dust has settled. Will Roy Jones be a top 25 ATG?

to be honest the other greats you mentioned didnt get KO'd several times

Roy has been fighting so long past relevance that we forget his prime because since 04 he has been losing

    7 yrs of bad

Ali never had 7 yrs of losing Leonard didnt either, Robinson lost at the end but he wasnt getting KO'd

Robinson fought on for about 8 years and must have lost about 15 16 times to poor opposition yet it doesnt affect him.

I agree on the KO point. I think tht might be just remembered as a consideration of him going to heavy, then stripping off all the weight destroyed his ability to take a punch and wont affect his ratings

but he moved down from heavy and then beat Tarver

the Tarver punch was just a great shot to KO him

he looked gun shy vs Johnson and got hit with a bomb

vs Calzaghe he showed shades of his old self and even some heart fighting cut

for a while he could still win over matched fights like Tito, Lacy, Hanshaw, Prince,

but then he lost to Danny Green and that wasnt his punch Resistance that was his reflexes

he put his hand down to bait Green in for a counter but didnt have the reflexes to get out of the way of the punch he wanted to counter

And yes robinson lost a lot at the end of his career but he was like 100 something and 1 at one point and beat a long list of HOF guys

Roys prime wasnt nearly as close

Jones rarely lost a round for 15years, completely dominating great fighters, yes easily 1 of the best ever, the things he was doing in the ring was just unreal. But I'm sure some hipster will make a thread asking if Morales who lost in his prime to Guty Espadas was better and half of ESB will agree

Either way, he was noticebly alot worse after coming down from Heavyweight with his reflexes and speed massively reduced.

Agree with you on Robinson which is why he Regarded best of all time.

And if Robinson can be the best of all time with 15 losses and a load of Draws in his last 8 years as a Pro, against mediocre opposition.

Then someone like Roy can at least crack the top 25 despite the poor finish to his career.

Steroids aside, Nope unfortunately when I think Roy I can only think about him laid out on the canvas looking like he's dead, and to think he got ko'ed like in more than one fight...........He simply doesn't the fights against the big name fighters, and 0 classic fights, he beating a bunch of bums, is the equivalent of a NBA player playing street ball games dominating, not missing a shot, it's all show but in reality it doesn't mean a damn thing, it's a shame too cause Roy was always one of my favorite fighters, but the truth is the truth
