I want to start a thread re quotes or tidbits about what great fighters thought of one another.... "Someone once said there was a comparision between Sugar Ray Leonard and Sugar Ray Robinson. Believe me, There's no comparison. Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest."- Sugar Ray Leonard. Before the Hagler/Duran fight in '83, Carlos Monzon picked Duran to win!
Larry Holmes: "Ali, Marciano, Dempsey, Liston, Tunney, Louis, i'd whoop all of them. Only Johnson would be too hard". Something along those lines. Kind of weird that he thinks he loses to, what in my opinion would be his easiest opponent of those named. Of course, humbleness is not one of Larry's virtues.
I know Burley said something along the lines of "Eddie Booker would have been my hardest fight" It in my sig but " This content is protected
Chavez on the greatest - 'I think Roberto Duran is the greatest Latin fighter' (I like the way i worded that!!! Haha) Beau Jack on Kid Gavilan - 'i hit him but he just kept coming' Robinson on Gavilan (something like this, apparently) - ' to helll with this, im boxing this guy from now on' - Robinson on trying to stop Gavilan in between rounds in his corner.
Perhaps Holmes had to recognise that Johnson of all the heavyweight champion was the only one who uneoquivocaly had less humility than himself.
