Undefeated WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (30-0, 27 KOs), confirmed that 2011 will be his last year at 126 pounds and he will be headed up to the junior lightweight division in 2012. “We have two fights at 126, Orlando Salido and a rematch with Rafael Marquez,” stated Juanma. “I hope to go to 130 pounds for 2012.” He added that he expects to make stops in the 135lb and 140lb divisions, as well. A bout with Yuriorkis Gamboa could come late this year or in 2012, but Gamboa must first face the dangerous Chris John.

Yeah I'm not interested in seeing that rematch either. Rafa gave JuanMa a good fight, but Lopez is just too big for him. This is crazy, JuanMa vs Gamboa should happen towards the end of 2011 not a Marquez rematch.

That lovely quote by The Bobfather makes one more optimistic about this fight ever happening doesnt it?

Hell, I don't think it'll ever happen. As soon as one of them takes an L, that'll probably drastically reduce their earning power in the end. Of course there's some fighters out there with several L's that still have quite an amount of barganing power, but not everyone.

If it doesn't happen this year, then presumably it will have to take place at 130. There's no point whatsoever in that happening - who are either guy going to fight at SFW that will build the fight up any more?

Will victories over Burns, Fana or Uchiyama turn Gamboa-JuanMa into a financial blockbuster?

If the Lopez fights Marquez and Gamboa fights John, I think the fight losses it's lusture as I think John beats Gamboa.
