Zab Judah - Devon Alexander - Danny Garcia Being the foreign fighter Matthysse first got noticed when he was on the wrong side of a bad decision against Judah, as the same with Alexander. Now we have Garcia who despite the low blows / clinching won the fight that night. Fast forward and look at both fighters careers since Matthysse - Molina Jr. / Ortiz / Provodnikov Garcia - Herrera / Salka / Peterson Matthysse had a hard time early against Molina but then came on strong later in the fight scoring the knockout Garcia also struggled in his first fight back but unlike Matthysse couldnt find the power to put Herrera away and most people had Herrera winning the fight Mathysse and Garcia both had a "tune up" bout against Ortiz/Salka Whilst Ortiz sported a 31-0-1 record (24ko) he didnt have the opprutunity to showcase it as the fight was stopped somewhat prematurely . . . . . Salka however was stopped correctly but its a little less impressive with Salkas lack luster record Now we have the big ones. Former Matthysse KO victim Lamont Peterson managed to put on a performance against Garcia however the judges pretty much robbed him of a win that I felt he deserved which was surprising as I didnt think the fight would go the distance let alone have Peterson winning As for Lucas he fought tooth and nail with the only other big name at 140 in Provodnikov, sadly 2 less deserving fighters were challenging for the world title the same night. Matthysse beat Ruslan unlike anyone before him . . . . without a shadow of a doubt Lucas won. Garcia refuses to fight Matthysse again due to the injuries Matthysse inflicted on him, Matthysse is more than willing to prove he is the better fighter So be honest . . . . who really came out on top? what other fighters do you know that lost but later surpassed their "conqueror"
Don't understand your post. Garcia is still undefeated and the A side with the belts, promoter and money. How exactly is he losing?
On paper yes, he should have 1 lost. Still doesn't change the fact that he beat Matthyse, still the champ, and still undefeated.
The Lucas fight was determined by the bogus knockdown in a round Lucas was easily winning :deal He lost to Peterson and Herrera as 90 percent of fans agree :deal He has at least two legit losses
The Lucas fight was determined by Garcia being the better fighter that night. No if's and's or but's about it. Matthyse simply just lost in a competitive war. He lost to Herrera in a close fight where he got the decision as a hometown fighter. But he won against Peterson in another close fight where Peterson did absolutely nothing for the first half of the fight but beat Danny up in the last quarter. 115-113 was the correct score and there was absolutely no robbery there. And where are you getting your statistics from, this site? That's like trying to get an honest description of the Holocaust in a white supremacist forum. Fan boys of Lucas, Khan, Morales and haters of Danny's pops are automatically gonna give it to the other guy out of pure hatred.
A close fight with bad officiating. If a fighter beats a fighter im a fan of i take it on the chin and say fair play. Years ago i couldnt stand Froch and now hes a favourite of mine Garcia on the other hand masquerades as a champion. The Matthysse fight was close granted but how much was Lucas effected by the constant shots below the belt? how much did the constant clinching from Garcia effect the fight? The fact that Garcia has refused rematches with both Matthysse and Herrera opting to fight Rod Salka of all people . . . . . He beat Morales barely the first time, Was being outboxed by Khan til he hit a hail mary on Khans whiskers, was put under extreme pain fighting Garcia as he admitted (or his father did) then robs Herrera/Peterson I just dont see what the fascination with Garcia is truthfully. hes looked ruined since the Matthysse fight and not as willing to trade as he was before and Id back Matthysse to win a rematch But above all this thread isnt neccesrily about Garcia/Matthysse, its about fighters who have ended up surpassing the guy who beat them, in the long run Garcia will likely continue fighting lower tier fighters at welterweight til he gets a shot at a champion he has a chance against or fight for a vacant belt whilst getting gift decisions, meanstwhile Matthysse is fighting dangerous opposition and to top it all winning clearly. thats one example in my opinion, i was just curious about similar scenarios
