All this talk about Pacquiao vs Mayweather not happening seems a bit premature to me. Lets make the optomistic assumption that pacquiao gets by Cotto. THere is no way this fight doesn't happen. THere is just too much money involved. Look at other examples of fights being made under difficult circumstances. Tyson vs Lewis. Tyson went to all lengths to avoid the fight. Lewis ends up taking him to court and suing him to get a fight. The fight is made but still there are problems. Both guys are on rival networks and the fight seems impossible. HBO and showtime agree to a joint telecast with commentators and analysts from both networks but there is still an issue of Tyson being licensed. He's had a lot of problems with the law and in the ring. They find a state that will license him and get the fight made. Hopkins vs DLH. I think this one is particularly relevant because it shows that a hard headed guy that overestimates his value will put it aside if the money stacks up. Hopkins refused a 6 million dollar payday against Roy jones because he felt that he deserved a 50/50 split. He even opted to take a much lower paying fight at 1.2 million because he would not give Roy the split claiming that being a unified champion and holding the victory over Trinidad makes him a draw. in comes Oscar, offers bernard 1/3 of what he is making despite being the one moving up in weight. When 1/3 of your opponents purse still adds up to a shitload of money, you set aside your pride and get the fight made. There are plenty of other examples of fights that people thought would never happen. Floyd vs Judah said they were too good of friend to ever need the money that bad, Oscar said he would never fight Fernando, Ali had trouble getting licensed before fighting Fraizer. At the end of the day money always talks and that will be the case here as well. If Manny beats Cotto (and that's a big If.) Him and Floyd will fight unless one of them dies.
I would agree but Hopkins and Jones for some bizarre reason could not agree to a reasonable split to a shitload of money back in the day. So its not always the case.
I fully agree, the only problem is if Pac looks too good I don't think Mayweather will fight him. Even if Floyd can only get 50/50 on this fight it would still be more than he'd make anywhere else, depending on how Pac looks next weekend this could be bigger than Mayweather vs. De La Hoya.
you seem to confuse a bit on tyson-lewis. the problem was hbo vs. showtime and tyson being banned from vegas. but yeah the point is, its all about the money
well I would not say **** load, HBO was not offering that much to make both side happy, which is why they argued over the split.
