We often hear of fighters coming in out of shape an taking a L. Can anyone give examples of past or current fighters who worked way too hard in the gym ?

In the Chris Byrd vein, Crawford Ashley looked like a ****ing corpse when he dropped down to Super Middle to fight Nunn.

No. He's a pretty obscure fighter, honestly.

Whatever Riddick Bowe was doing in the gym for the second Golata fight he was doing wrong, and you could see it just by looking at him. At some point the HBO guys discussed whether they overtrained, and mentioned that Bowe lost the weight in a huge hurry and was at fighting weight months before the bout.

I've heard that Manny Pacquaio looked weight drained in some of his fights when he was way down in weight.

Ive also heard that Joe Louis was well below his usual weight in the Conn fight, and that was one reason he wasn't at his best.

Marciano in all probability trained too hard for many of his fights. He himelf said so, after sparring only half his usual rounds for the Moore fight. (I think he sparred under 100 rounds for Moore.)

    It's likely he actually overtrained.
