When Chisora retires Vitali and takes his WBC belt, isn't it pretty obvious who Wlad would have to fight to be lineal?

This thread is based on false assumptions. Wlad had already established his own lineage before Vitali made his comeback. Beating Chagaev was icing on the cake, but Wlad was already the man in the division after beating Ibragimov.

Vitali's presence is the only reason to 'doubt' Wlad as lineal champion. With Vitali retired, there would be no doubt whatsoever.

 

But, the former number 1 was Vitali, and he lost to Byrd

Byrd was then beaten immedietly afterward by Wlad

 

I would say Wlad is the lineal champ because of what he did when Vitali retired. Although it's slightly hard to say, since Vitali never really lost his title in the ring, and since his comeback he's continued to kick ass..

Of Wlad's12 fights since Vitali retired to the present. He has beaten 8 champions either current(Byrd,Ibragimov,Chagaev,Haye), former(Brewster,Rhaman,PeterII) and future(Peter I) With Peter II being a better fit opponent then he was when he lost his title to Vitali.

About the only thing that makes the lineage hard to say, is that Vitali would have beaten all of those opponents as well.

Wlad will be remebered as the HW champ from 06 onwards and that's all that matters, noone cares about linearity anymore.
