The biasness of Max Smellerman and crew reached an all time low the night Ward ball busted his way to victory. I've never seen such deliberate ignorance on the part of supposedly objective professionals that were paid to analyze. Although Ward improved on his performance from the first fight, he didn't land a meaningful follow-up punch after he stunned Kov . Had the situation been reversed, Kov would have definitely been disqualified. A shameful night of boxing that will live on in infamy. Any thoughts on why this occurred in the way it did would be useful. It's a form of protection in spite of the obvious video evidence to the contrary. How did they get away with it?
In my opinion, I feel like maybe Kovalev wasn't working well with HBO or something. It almost seemed like everyone but Lederman and Lampley were against him. They really seemed to keen on casting Sergey as a "bully" rather than the normal "badass" routine. I think Sergey is probably kind of a dick and was mad about the last fight, maybe he said something to people from HBO, but it seemed like they were all too happy to have Andre Ward win. I also think maybe people running HBO at the top are liberal, and probably felt that a russian who posts stuff like this on twitter: http://theboxingtribune.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/kovalev-racist.jpg Richard Plepler, the CEO of HBO is VERY liberal. He has donated over $200,000 to candidates on the left over the years. If he saw things like Sergey meeting Trump, the picture he posted on twitter, AND the fact that Russia is now as unpopular as ever with the USA left, I could see the entire organization going against Kovalev. I'm not saying that he outright said "HAVE SERGEY LOSE". But if everyone "wants" Sergey to lose. Judges/refs/the commission, can all feel that. Here are the donations made by HBO CEO: https://www.campaignmoney.com/political/contributions/richard-plepler.asp?cycle=16 There are also more not displayed here. You can find those donations on the FEC website: http://docquery.fec.gov/cgi-bin/qind/
It's embarrassingly transparent to the average person, that sportsmanship and decency have been replaced with win at any cost. And for what, so a fool can hold on to his belt longer.
Kovalev protests a clean body shot that hurts him. Kovalev gets caught with a right hand that puts him on shaky legs. Kovalev gets battered rope to rope, at one point putting his hands in his pockets while standing upright in the corner. A clean body shot folds him in half. Kovalev gets hit in the nuts. This fight was a foregone conclusion long before the low blow. Get over it.
Funny you should say that those two commentators were being fair to Kov even though neither of them called those blows low. Both have been saying that Ward won fair and square, that he should now be maybe considered pound for pound. Even as one of them watched the replay of the stoppage he only had praise for Ward's performance. So where do you get the idea that these commentators were being unbiased?
I think you need to take your head out of your ass and watch it again. Ward didn't land a single effective punch after the shot that hurt Kov.
I accurately described what happened. I'd be happy for a third fight. I'd probably make a good chunk of change off of delusional jerk offs like you. Kovalev was gasping like a fish out of water after the 5th. He quit, and he's still blaming his cardio for getting outboxed. Seriously, move on with your life.
You're much of what's wrong with this former great country. A piece of filth like you wouldn't know the truth if it hit you in the nuts.
Watching the "alpha male" going full beta, faking, turning his back like a scared baby girl, praying god so that the referee stops the fight, and later on making sore loser excuses was too much for you all. Try watching the fight in slowmotion and on a mirror, it helped *******s a lot. Maybe it will work for you too.
To those of you that are basically lying to cover up this blatant example of corruption, you really need to look at yourselves.
He didn't land a meaningful punch after hurting Kov? First of all he hurt Kov...something you didn't think that he could do. Second, the body shots ARE meaningful shots. Another butthurt Kov fan, lmao.
Its common to see fighters get hurt at one point in the fight. The brain trauma that Ward took after getting knocked down by Kovalev in the first fight should have ended the fight is that what your saying? The truth is that its supposed to take a couple of rounds of domination or multiple knockdowns to stop a fight. People payed good money to see the fight reach its conclusion. Kovalev was fading as the fight went on but he was also winning from a neutral perspective based on punches landed. Boxers get second winds, or maybe Kovalev could have scored a knockdown and keep things interesting. If Andre Ward needs judges and referees to help him win, thats pathetic. Nobody is going to pay to see a third fight. Hell, nobody is going to pay to see Ward again. Im not saying its his fault but people are going to associate the poor officiating in the past two fights on him. Ward fans should be the most outraged because it hurts Wards ability to make bank.
