Are you serious? Chris jumped straight up smiling and nodding to Joe saying "good shot". I think Joe later said that at the time he knew he was in for a very tough night. Eubank was one tough cookie, Calzaghe hit him with everything in their World title fight and that was before Calzaghe had hurt his hands which was a little bit later in his career, Calzaghe was stopping opponents left right and centre with his hard fast crisp combinations at the time, apart from a flash knockdown, Eubank took it.
Yeah. He were visibly covering his ribs against Benn the first time, so I reckon he were hurtin then, but apart from that.... :think
In all honesty, Benn and Euabnk were incredibly durable tough fighters, what they did to each other, would have changed any other boxers careers, they went beyond what their bodies were capable of and carried on, Eubank was most hurt against Benn, Thompson had him fairly hurt, but Thompson was a lot fresher and bigger.
Thompson made a mess of his face, but had him 'fairly hurt'? :think I have these fights, I'll rewatch...
Watson decked him legit in the eleventh (second fight). The first legit knockdown in Eubank's career; he acknowledged himself to being extremely hurt. In the 12 Watson went for the kill....
Eubank took some monstruous shots in the two Thompson fights; he was fighting at a higher weight, so he took them rather well....a beating though...for both fighters.
I was gonna say Watson II but on reflection I think Eubank was just utterly exhausted. It wasn't much of a punch that put him down and he seemed to collect himself quickly, and then immediately threw that monster punch that ended Watson's career.
That's true. But Joe hit him with small inside shots not very graphic on camera but who hurt Eubank much more than he would like to admit. ITV showed some slow mo in between rds that were quite to the point.
Did Eubank say he was extremely hurt by that shot versus Watson? I would be interested in hearing what he said. I haven't seen it in a while but my memory is his getting straight back up, no count from the ref? He looked more exhausted to me than anything.
If the KD in the eleventh had occurred at the beginning of the rd, Watson would have stopped him. Eubank had good recuperative powers, but he was very lucky that night.
Eubank was taking shots for the previous 4 rds and was showing discomfort; Watson was applying intelligent pressure and Chris could not penetrate his guard. The gods were guarding him that night, it should have been his first loss.
