He was shot after he defeated Ruiz. If he had retired after winning a portion of the heavyweight title , he would've been a top 10 ATG.

Even before the Ruiz fight you can clearly see that he had lost a step.

He was clearly a shadow of his former self in the first Tarver fight. I gave him the benefit of the doubt then but the second Tarver fight proved that he was shot to ****.

No one actually thought Roy was shot until the Johnson fight. He had lost a step before that fight, but the Johnson fight showed that he was done.

I think the back to back knockouts took more out of Jones mentally then they did physically. It took him quite a while to mentally get over those losses, and by the time he did, time had caught up with him. With that, it's hard to pinpoint a moment when you saw him and thought he was physically "shot". But it's safe to say that after Glen Johnson KOed him, he never fully recovered.

At the time, I considered him shot after Tarver 2, because I attributed his poor performance in the 1st Tarver fight to the after-effects of burning off all that weight, but in hindsight now I realize he was shot in the 1st Tarver fight too because he never ever improved his standard of performance whenever he was in with a top fighter after that. From Tarver 1 onwards, Jones has either been knocked out or dominated by every single top 10 ranked fighter he has faced. For Roy Jones Jr to get blown out in 2 rounds by Tarver then knocked cold by Glen Johnson = shot to ****ing ****.

Nah I think time caught up to him after the Ruiz fight. I don't think he was shot in the first Tarver fight just past his prime. A better case in my opinion can be made that he was shot after Tarver or after Johnson. I am a RJJ fan but he got caught perfectly in the second Tarver fight I'll make no excuses for that loss.
