It had to be Johnson, at the time of the Tarver knockout most people thought Roy just got caught with a good hard punch, after Johnson, it was pretty much known that Roy was done.

You think Roy would have been favored to beat Woods after losing to Tarver for the 3rd time? I think not.

    I do.
Roy lost on points to Tarver in their 3rd fight, this was when Tarver was recognised by The Ring as the best LHW at the time (The LHW Ring champ).
Jones had soundly beaten Woods previously but not Tarver.
Not that it gives a true reflection but gives some indication maybe, but the alledged shot Jones didnt lose as widely on points to Tarver as world champ Woods did to Tarver some years later.
There were many people picking Jones to beat Calzaghe including Hopkins, Froch and Haye as I recall.
Below, I feel is a good honest assessment.

I would have favoured a shot Jones to beat Woods.

To answer the question, i say the Johnson fight.

Jones was'nt the same as soon as he got to 175. But not shot.

WHile being surprised by Tarver agresiveness in their first encounter, Jones showed a lot of courage and heart getting back in that fight.

Second Tarver fight, well, good shot, good night.

Then came Johnson where superman was finally just Kent.

Uh, you guys have to remember that right before Johnson knocked Jones out, he had 2 close fights with Woods one of them a draw.. Jones barely wins a round against Tarver for his 3rd straight loss looking gun shy and stationary. And he would be picked over Woods?

Woods came at Jones pretty tough in their fight, and put pressure on him early and had alot of heart.. Jones was still half alive and still had legs, and was able hold Woods off and stop him... Shot Jones would fold under the pressure Woods put on him, just like he did against Johnson. Especially with Woods able to watch the Johnson fight, you know he would try the same thing.

Woods even beat Johnson a year later, and did better against Tarver than Jones did the last 2 times. Woods would have beaten Roy, and favored to do so.

Woods didnt do better against Tarver than Jones did the first or third time. The scores reflect better for Jones against Tarver in their 3rd fight than Woods against Tarver, also styles make fights, id have picked Woods but we'll have to disagree

Wow Bailey Hopkins picked Jones to beat Calzaghe????

Why in the world would he do that? After losing a close fight against Calzaghe that he thought he won? You don't smell the agenda in that one?:patsch

**** the scores in the third Tarver fight were much closer than the fight was... I thought they were being kind to Jones.. I think I gave Roy 2 rounds, and I am a huge fan. Also, Tarver just about knocked Jones out again in the 11th... Roy was lucky to get out of that fight...

Woods did better in my opinion. And that same pressure he came out against Roy with, would have made Roy fold, had he fought Roy after Tarver 3. Hell Anthony Hanshaw had success against Roy, who was a SMW, and inferior to Clinton Woods.

Thats how I see it above

We'll have to agree to disagree, but I find the top quote to be how I see it

I havent, the top quote is how I see it, im guessing now it must be catching up with him. The D Green fight has some glove contraversy in which Jones was taking legal action over (Hand wrapping) and was at a weight he had never fought before.
But as said im of the same opinion as the top quote

After Tarver 1 he didn't look the same as he did before he went to HW. His legs were clearly gone.

You think it is catching up with Roy now? Have you not been watching his last 10 fights?

What did you vote in the poll? I am guessing never shot, just a little past it?

Roy was not as fast in the Tarver 1 fight opposed to his previous fight with Ruiz. After Ruiz you could tell Jones wasn't prime anymore.
