That is a point that could be argued I suppose. A win in the Kovalev-Ward fight means much more on either fighters resume and legacy than it did for either fighter in Wlad-Fury.

But to be fair, the effect on Wlad or Fury's resume has to wait to see how significant fury becomes in the future of the division. But that doesn't really count for the one specific fight.

Wwwwwhaaaaattttttt, wlad possibly the 2nd best hw in the WORLD, ATM is beyond ludicrous, not completely sure he's currently a top 5 hw, assuming fury is ahead if him defaulted by losing in their fight a tiny bit less than wlad did.

Wlad could be #5 right now, i still rank him over fury and am picking wlad big in the rematch

My reasoning is this. Kovalev is better than Wlad or Fury ever were p4p. Andre Ward is better than Wlad or Fury ever were p4p. Wlad is aged. Kovalev and Ward haven't yet declined.

It's just a higher quality fight.

The pfp number 1 and arguably 2 faced off last year and Salt Water took an L.

That's not as significant of a fight. These are arguably the two best fighters in the world and neither has shown any signs of decline at all.

One is off a layoff and has done nothing at 175. The other has had a lesser career in total than Floyd or Manny at 147. If Ward loses, he's past it and outsized. If Kovalev loses, he's hype.

Not at all. Those who watch boxing know they're both at the top of their game right now. Look at their skills. Both off the chart.

Agree. I have been rewatching some Kovalev and Ward fights lately in light of the (hopefully) upcoming fight, and both are excellent, excellent boxers.

And even better, they've signed to fight each other rather than feasting on weaker opponents.

Certainly Mayweather vs. Pacquiao, 2015, and Mayweather vs. Alvarez, 2013.

Ward vs. Froch, Donaire vs. Rigondeaux, Roman vs. Yaegashi, and the upcoming Klitschko vs. Fury rematch probably all hold/held more significance in recent years, but it's in that realm of massive fights, sure.
