Honest question. Think its been a real long time but not sure. The further back it goes, though, the more it blows up the theory that the Cruiserweight division is superfluous, that size doesn't matter in the HW division, and that the old timers could beat the modern SHW.

I don't know what he weighed exactly, but Huck challenging Povetkin jumps to mind as a possible contender that fits the bill. Not sure, though.

Thanks, just looked him up though and he was 209.5. Also, are you a mod? Have you noticed the extreme racism from Monotony on one of the other top threads? The most blatant banworthy stuff I've ever personally seen.

Roy Jones vs John Ruiz? He weighed 193 in 2003.

Eddie Chambers was 209 against Wlad in 2010. David Haye was 210 in 2011. Adamek was 216 vs Vitali in 2011. Chris Byrd was 210 against Vitali in 2000. Evander Holyfield was only 208 when he beat Douglas and Foreman and never hovered much above 215 even against Tyson and Lewis. Holyfield was 205 when he fought against Bowe in 92. Michael Spinks was 199 and 205 when he beat Larry Holmes in 85 and 86. Leon Spinks was 200 against Holmes in 81. Mike Weaver was 202 against Holmes in 79.

This is the right answer, I think. Jones was 193(!). Impressive and probably underrated achievement by Jones (I haven't seen the bout since it was live, although I remember thinking for once Ruiz, typically the beneficiary of biased scores, was on the losing end of them in that one).

Apart from Jones Ruiz, when was the last HW title challenger below 205?

BE, your posts range from 1. Stupid to 2. Insightful to 3. Ironic and funny, with the exact pinpoint of humor at times hard to track. Kinda like Family Guy.

I'll classify this post in category 3.

Glad we have you around, even though I'm equally likely to disagree with you as to agree with you (as to laugh at you):good

I think the last guy before Roy to win it at 205 or less was Michael Spinks. I'm at a loss coming up with title challengers in between the two...

Pre-Roy Jones vs John Ruiz: Michael Spinks weighed 199.75, when he challenged Larry Holmes in 1985.

Blizzy, we've agreed on some Wilder threads in the past. But Monotony's racism is too extreme. If I saw someone dare to question Ali, Louis, or Lewis's accomplishments on the basis of their race the way he questioned the K's, Marciano's, and Fury's, I'd call them out even more so.

Remember people were ranking RJJ in the HW rankings all of a sudden because of that win. Anyone who said he's too chinny and light for HW boxing was laughed at. Looking back RJJ would have been destroyed by ANY HW not named Ruiz.
