Was worried that there wouldn't be enough people on and it would keep dropping out but in breaking news, Setanta have just announced that they've bought the fight.

In terms of great matchups being put together, revenue generated, lack of controversies and black eyes for the sport, and exciting fights, I'd say it's been the most consistently good year in a LONG time. You might have to go back to the 80s to find a year this solid. In the 80s there were tons of them.

Would you agree that 1986 is the last year as good as this one?

Ibragimov-Holyfield was interesting, in that it was yet another sequel to Holyfield's "How to Sell Snow to an Eskimo" video series. I can't believe how many people (myself included) felt Holyfield had a chance.

Although this was a great year, there were still some fights that didn't happen that could of made this year even better.

    Dawson-Diaconu
    Peters-Maskaev

    Those fights should of happened.

True, but neither was a fight I was particularly excited about, although Dawson is always a pleasure to watch and Maskaev-Peter had some potential. However, given a choice between these two fights and yet more of "stars" deciding that they don't need to fight each other ("Money... Risk... He's a bum... Waste of time... Now I'll face an outmatched opponent" etc. etc.) which plagued boxing in recent years.

The thing is, now elite boxers have worked out that it's worth taking on risky opponents for less than stellar purses, because they've seen what it can do for other elite boxers.

Note: I'm sure it's not a coincidence that the best year of boxing in ages has been the year in which Don King has had very little influence.
