Corbett was what, 60lbs lighter? And a renowned mover for his time?

And by the way, I rate Tyson higher than Wlad as well.

I don't expect Kubrat to be as light on his feet as Jim, but he came in heralded for his jab and movement. He lost the jabbing contest with Klitschko and his feet were stuck in cement most of the night.

Obviously perspective ought to be scaled, like you're getting at, but tactically speaking, Corbett did what needed doing with someone who, proportionately, was every bit as dangerous a hitter and big KO threat for Corbett as Klitschko posed to Pulev - while Pulev simply didn't live up to what his vaunted chance to beat Klitschko had been (to move, jab, and outbox him) and failed in both tactics and execution in his losing effort as compared with Corbett in his.

They did look kind of bad, sloppy. It was quite funny because of the clash of styles. Entertaining fight but it didn't look like the number 1 and number 2 in the world from a skill and technique POV.

    Klitschko looked terrific, Pulev didn't.

2's the minimum required to pull off a proper tango.

He looked good until he was dropped. Just a shame it was so early.

I remember somewhere a Wlad quote: "once you get hit it changes everything" Kubrat has never been tagged like that before and he really underestimated that left

well to be dropped hard twice in round one, your legs and reflexes gone, pulev showed heart and will there. had he not been dropped so quickly and he actually mustered up defence, he could of reached the later rounds. Being hurt so early on, there was no way back specially vs klitchko.

Eh...he fought pretty stupid from the start, IMO.

...and since we are comparing & contrasting his performance directly with that of Corbett 118 years ago, you have to say the guy who lasted fourteen rounds and scored his own knockdown fared a little better.

in fairness it didnt look great , i think pulev looked alright though he isnt some **** fighter that'd get murdered in any other era , i just think wlad is getting on and hes finding the boxing tougher in terms of the movement his knockdown shots were great though but i think he is relying on the clicnhes now. It was entertaining aswell

This fight had the feeling Pulev could land something big at any point while it went on. He did land a few very good shots and Wlad was even a bit wobbled a couple of times.

Some of Wlads more recent fights have certainly been worthy of critique, but a lot of you are picking at the wrong one here. This was actually a very decent scrap. :bbb

I think pulev didnt want to break plan, he usually fights cautiously, but he is usually upward and trying to work behind his jab. but that wofting left he does, its stupid, and when he fought an elite fighter he got paid for it. He was in range alot not enough throwing punches, he should removed himself from the firing range, but obviously he felt wlad hates pressure, yeh when hes fighting a man who can slip his jab not one that is bolt upright looks like he has a broomstick up his ass.

Wlad did not look good to me. A few hooks on a moving heavy bag? Big deal. Most of his work was flailing , pawing , clinching and head locks. Who the hell leads with a clinch ffs?

    This is looking good.
