He definitly belongs in the discussion with them. Arguably the best, in terms of ability, fighter to come out of Mexico. Was a wrecking ball at Bantamweight and a respectable Featherweight champion.

Good post and i have Lopez 3rd on my list only behind Sanchez and Chavez. He might not have beat Great fighters but he beat plent of pretty good ones Alvarez was possibly a great fighter the very good ones being Grigsby,Sorjaturong,Nene Sanchez,Potlelo,Vorapin,Villamor, just to name a few, and he dominated all of them except for Alvarez.

i ranked olivares similarly today. frankly olivares' 67-68 run is among the best in modern history. i LOVE finito and rank him on talent as one of the best 10 i've ever seen. BUT olivares has the resume and proven ability against better opposition.

it's my opinion however, that if given the chance in a slightly higher division he would have excelled. he has more talent than olivares but he and chavez are more proven

i'm having trouble with sanchez though, whose resume is good but not on the level of the others. lopez was virtually flawless but he lacks the signature wins of the afro-superstar sanchez. still, on film, lopez showed more skill so i may give him the edge

A better question would be does Ricardo Lopez deserve a top 10 placing? He does on my list, but I can see the argument opposing it. He didn't fight one great fighter, despite Anarci's shameless promoting of Alvarez. His consistency, undefeated record, and ability are that of an elite fighter, but he can't be considered the greatest Mexican fighter ever when there are at least 10 others who fought and beat better opposition.

Alvarez is underrated and would have beat some of the guys that some on the classic forum pump up so high:yep

    Such as whom?

Barrera has a better case than Lopez for a top three placing, as does Erik Morales.

Addie i think very highly of those two, in fact i rate them higer than most do. We have been over this a zillion times as to why i rate Lopez higher, but i do see your point in rating Barrera,Morales over them just dont agree with it. By no means is it a way out opinion, like the one you said about Napoloes being more competetive against Monzon, than Oscar against Hopkins.

Have you viewed those fights again:huh Done your homework?

Anarci, if you can go pull that quote from me that somehow mentioned Monzon, I will leave ESB forever and never come back. ...I didn't say it, wrong guy.
