I say by 2009. He should wait for the welterweight title picture to clear itself up a little bit before he makes his move. If he does get a shot this year, I fear he might end up like Vargas.

    Agreed

2009 should be the year he gets a title shot. This year, he would be best advised to face top 10-15 contenders like Oktay Urkal or Luis Collazo. They would be good tests and if he passed them, would give him valuable experience. He's not ready yet for Mayweather, Williams, or Cotto.

He mite not make it to 2009 as an undefeated fighter let alone a title shot. IMO this kid has to many chinks in his armor and will not be around to long as an up and comer.

Berto's chin is suspect. He first needs to work on his defense.

Yep, those guys will chew him up and spit him out. He is definitely not ready for those fights.

I think he has a good chance against Torres.

Depends on the title belt and division he goes after.

In the end of 2008 if they bring on 3 good ranked fighters. If he can beat a healthy Collazo at the end of the summer he will be ready. Of course his chances are not that good at this weight, but against Cintron he's got a pretty good chance and you know there's a paper champion called Yuri Nuzhnenko whom he can beat at any date.

he needs to fight the collazo's and quintana's of the division and then maybe zab judah early 09 and fight for a title middle or late of the year assuming he wins these fights of course.
