Cotto's fans make such an uproar about a fight happening with Mayweather, but something tells me he and his management dont want this fight to happen any time soon. The longer he waits the better his chances of winning, Mayweather is already 31 going on 32.

Mayweather is the champion, his time for calling guys out has long gone. No matter what Cotto's fans say, Mayweather doesnt have to fight Cotto to prove anything, he is already 5 division titlist and lineal in 3 weight classes, but the same cant be said the otherway around.

A closed mouth doesnt get fed, if Tarver didnt call out Jones, the fight would have never happened, same can be said about Hatton calling out Mayweather after defeating Castillo and insulting Mayweather. fRANK WARREN didnt wanna risk his cash cow, and glossy record so Hatton took it in his own hands and made the fight. Cotto has to do the same

    WBOgus :rofl

I think people need some patience. Cotto is going to have a much bigger name after he completely demolishes Margo, then there is more money involved in a PBF/Cotto showdown. I think it will happen in '09

True. Cotto is already 28 (so he has 4 or 5 prime years left) and hasn't been Lineal or recognized Champ in any weight class.

I don't recall Cotto winning the WBO belt at 147, but see your point.

By the time he retires he will have a good resume and multiple world titles, but I suppose with the alphabet soup people don't really remember titlists, they remember linear champs and unified champions - and as yet, Cotto is neither.

To be fair, there is plenty of time to achieve this, but with welter being quite strong a number of the stronger names are likely to shy away from each other and make endless, meaningless defences of a single title - ala Joe Calzaghe.

who cares? The fight won't happen any sooner or any later than 09. Just hold your horses, You don't think Mayweather knows Cotto is in the mix for the fighter to fight him? To say no is to insult Mayweather's intelligence. Like you all say, boxing is a "business" right?!?!? They're building this fight up as high as they can before they make it. Is this too hard for your innocent little minds to comprehend? Understood? Are we not going to see anymore pointless Cotto vs Mayweather threads? We were going good and very strong for a while, but this thread ruined all the god damn progress! Good Job!!!!

Cotto hasnt had an opportunity to become a lineal champ at 140 and 147. When he was at 140, Mayweather was there and we know that fight wasnt happening back then b/c Cotto was "too green" Not only that, but the other champs were pretty busy themselves.

Now, at 147, it's not his fault he's not the linear champ. He was supposed to fight Margarito before Marg lost his belt. Until Floyd fights him, he will never get the opportunity to become the lineal champ.

Speaking of this lineal champ BS. It really doesnt mean anything. The only kind of champion people should be concerned about is the UNDISPUTED champion.

How many times has Floyd had the honor to be called THE UNDISPUTED CHAMP?

The same can be said about Cotto. I'd want him to unify the belts. Having 1 or 2 belts doesnt mean you are the best at that weight. You have to prove it. No title holder should be content with having their one piece of **** belt. They should aim to have all of them.

(robot voice) the Cottobot does not call names. The Cottobot only fights/destroys opponents that management puts directly in front of it

so r u saying he should have fought PBF at 140? The fight was there at the time if Cotto wanted it or Arum.

I would not haeve wanted it at the time b/c Cotto was still growing as a fighter. Also, Mayweather stated in an interview with Merchant that he did not want to fight Cotto b/c he was "too green"

oh, i thought floyd actually wanted to fight Cotto at 140....it was later he said he was too green i could be mistaken.

either way at 140 if Cotto kept fighting i think he would lose to Hatton....at 140...now though and polished....he'd slaughter him hatton.

Floyd had no desire to fight Cotto then probably due to his relationship with Arum.

However, if you are right and he did in fact want to fight Cotto back at 140, wouldn't that make him a hypocrit right now b/c he doesnt want to fact the current version of Cotto who supposedly is "unknown"??

I am pretty sure Cotto would love to face Mayweather, but he's not the type of fighter who just calls out any specific person, he's always been like this his whole career. Plus, he's facing a very dangerous opponent in Antonio Margarito which would be a more physical fight than a fight against Floyd. I'm sereiously hoping Cotto-Mayweather happens sometime early next year.

it could if u want to go that route but even at 140 Floyd was still trying the breakthrough to make those big bucks so he too was still scrapping and crawling to the top....im not even sure he was p4p #1 at that time so i mean then Cotto was a trinket...now though Cotto has the ability to be a huge huge pay day why not wait till its the right time and certasinly if cotto beats Margo and the cash cow Oscar...imagine the hype and the money to flow.....Cotto is a big fight now but after those two fights its HUGE!

right now its just a big fight because we as boxing followers know what the hell is goin on but some others need to be hyped and thats the average fan ya know.
