You have to think about the time attatched to those names. Duran, Hagler and hearns also looked very small compared to those names if they were mentioned in the 80s. Time has to go by first. In 20 years time, you'll see how impressive his resume is, Floyd has literally fought everyone. Outside of Pacquiao. Theres no one of Merit that he hasnt fought.
I'm one of the older fella's on here and I think Floyd is a great fighter, technically he's one of the best I've ever seen. Greatest of all time though? Robinson only lost one of his first 135 fights! Such was his longivety he fought and beat the best from several eras. La Motta,Galahad,Armstrong,Zivic,Angott,Bell,Basilio,Turpin,Graziano,Fulmer,Olsen and others from a really tough era when the talent pool was much larger. When you have a career that spans 25 years mainly at the top, you must end up fighting more good fighters simply by the law of averages. Floyd has a long way to go!
Well if he acually fights on to 38-40 something and never lost a fight against like 25-30 world champions then I guess I would call him pretty damn good. Goat is a hard thing to define but we can all agree that Mayweather has a rightful place in history.
Its almost impossible for him to get to the top 10 lets alone be the goat. He missed too many fights and spend too much time being inactive. He made a clear decision that money was more important to him than legacy, that was his priority and he achieved exactly that.
Floyd is a great fighter, one of the best tecnicians, but even if he would have fought everybody and ducked nobody... I don't think he could be GOAT. The Pac fight never happened (his most dangerous opponent), he chose to retire when the WW division got hot (pac entered, Margarito, Cotto, Clottey, Williams, Mosley, etc - I know he fought a couple of them but several years later), he came back and made Hatton move up, he cheated JMM on the scales (I can agree he beats him regardless but not something a GOAT needs to do). He chooses wisely when to fight certain people (Robert Guerrero, Victor Ortiz, etc). Plus I think it boils down to the fact he doesn't have real knockout power (a guy like Hearns or Hagler), doesn't throw a lot of punches or is a warrior (Leonard) and other than beautiful boxing skills nothing stands out as you. Hard to be a GOAT when you really don't have many big highlight clips to watch other than knocking out Ortiz after he gave you a hug lol.
You think in 20 years time, Castillo and Corrales will be seen in around the same bracket as Hagler, Hearns and Duran? Castillo and Corrales arent even seen as big in modern times compared to elite modern level fighters.
The question that you are actually asking is; "When will Mayweather be considered The Goat by the posters in this forum?" Because the "people who matter", you-know, Sanctioning bodies, former and current fighters, trainers, broadcasters, boxing analyst and HOF committee already believes and know this. So to hell what they think...lets create a thread about what a bunch of people think, who have never stepped inside a ring before. Sounds like a great idea. SMH!!!
