throw in dawson... if cal wins, americans should STFU about him being overrated... if not, then they just cannot accept the fact that joe has beaten all American boxers thrown in front of him

never. Americans never give anyone credit unless that fighter is American. Even more so if he is white and American. Look at Pavlik. He was being compared to SRR at one point after beating Taylor. That was pathetic.

The truth is you have to be American to get any sort of recognition and respect around here. Well the majority anyways.

you mean like Chavez? Duran? Monzon? Margarito? Tito? Cotto? Probably some of the most popular fighters on this website and in America?

Seriously you guys are pathetic. Calzaghe doesnt get respect cuz he fought tomato cans for 10 years then fought a old Hopkins and Jones. Why the hell should he get respect?

I have respect for the man, I think he has done what needs to be done but in order for him to gain more respect not only the americans but the WORLD, he should fight prime fighters like Dawson and if he beats them then there will be no more hate except for the ******s who cant accept defeat. :good

Really insecure bunch are those brits always have to be blessed by their big brother the USA.

Isnt it enough we have to pay your fighters? Your top fighters make their whole career just to get on HBO or showtime or get to vegas. Well if you have been to vegas I dont blame you there:nut

Its also not true that americans dont respect fighters from other countries. We love mexican boxers, MAB, JMM, Morales. Margo and puerto rican fighters. Cotto, Tito.

We also love Manny..I do the man knows no fear. I actually respect hatton more than I respect Joe calzaghe.

I think he needs an American prime fighter on American soil and win by KO or UD either will earn the respect of millions in the world

The extreme haters will never give him the credit he deserves, just like the extreme huggers will always give him more credit than is due. In my opinion he will be looked upon a lot more objectively by US fans in the future, with the beauty of hindsight.

im an american but also a huge fight fan plain and simple i dont care where the guy is from calzaghe is a great fighter who uses his skills to the best of his ability and that has gotten him to where he is of course he has heart and determination and is no ordinary fighter . the problem with the american fans imo is that they look at fights that should have happened in fighters primes and make predictions on them and then when a fight like this happens clearly after jones has been battered all the excuses come out and it takes away from the fact that calzaghe beat the guy . props to joe

Like I say I give Calzaghe a great deal of credit for the fact that he basically created a unique style in a sport that has been around since the 1800s, and the fact that he has a very high workrate at a age in which fighters slow down dramatically. However what stops me from giving him a even bigger amount of credit is the fact that a number (not all) of his significant wins are against fighters that are not in their primes (specifically Eubank, Hopkins, RJJ) I still give him credit for the wins (especially the hopkins one) and I dont mind a few wins against past primed fighters every now and then, but I cant fully give him the credit some fans (mostly british fans) think he deserves from that aspect. You can make a serious case saying the only significant wins of fighters faced in their absolute prime are Jeff Lacy and Mikkel Kessler.

Calzaghe should just forget about what Americans think cuz at the end of the day their opinions don't mean **** and I'm saying this as an American too. He's going to Canastota and he's probably going there undefeated. When he wins they want to throw out a name of someone who might be able to beat him but it's just to save face. If Joe beat every top American between 160 and 175 you'd have people saying "well wait til this guy from the amateurs turns pro, he'll beat Calzaghe." It's pretty much the same old garbage and you see it with Wladimir Klitschko too. Hasim Rahman is the chosen one this month until Wladimir's next fight. It just comes down to wanting to see the guy lose and everyone will rally behind the next opponent who takes the job.

Calzaghe is a great fighter. I don't need a bunch of critics who know **** all (borrowed that from the UK crowd) about boxing to try and change my opinion of him. I criticized him for years. He shut me up with Lacy and then made me a true believer when he beat Kessler, a fighter who definitely has the goods and was a legitimate threat to Joe's crown. Call him Calslappy and all those ridiculous names and throw around Chad Dawson's name all you want. Bottom line: 46-0. :hi:
