It still surprises me how relatively low the top MMA fighters make compared to other sports. The top guys deserve to make top money.

I know that you still have to add up the sponsors and the other money that comes out of the paycheck but still.

Or is it like boxing a bit where popularity counts as well cus i read somewhere (might be false) that Kimbo was getting paid more than BJ Penn which is just wrong.

Only one i know of that made over 1 million dollar in an MMA fight was Fedor. As far as when top fighters should start making millions, maybe the MMA boss needs to come together and just make one big promotion.

thats how the UFC works right? SInce Dana is the boss you cant really choose your fights he matchmakes them all and decides what to pay the fighters?

Funny thing, Frank Shamrock had this in mind a looong time ago. It's not going to happen, fighters and fans are generally too dumb/ stupid to realize a monopoly on the sport should be held by the fighters, rather than a single entity/org.

As long as the UFC is in charge, it isn't going to happen, unless they get rid of Dana White, or put someone else in charge of fighter payout.. Dana is a fine hype man, but ultimately he is too egocentric and emotional to be genuinely good for the fighters.. He has been good for the sport overall, but his run as being good for the sport has come to an end.

It will probably take a strike of some sort by the biggest fighters out there to raise the salaries dramatically. But with the nature of this sport and new blood coming in all the time, it would be very difficult.

The dominance by Zuffa makes it suck for salaries for the fighters, but there a lot less corruption and shitty big fights then you get in boxing (the most analogous other pro sport)

But that cant change though then right? Dana is in charge of the fighters salaries so i see it hard for the champions and top fighters to make more money.

There is no way that the fighters can take over i guess.

Keep it the way it is. You dont want MMA to be ruined like all major sports who have overpaid players that dont give a damn.

Next thing you know, you'll have Anderson Silva making a million calling someone a playboy.

UFC is good for MMA, they control the fighters and control the matchups unlike boxing.

What Dana needs to do is put on good cards not **** ones, I for the life of me dont understand how he cant do this in every PPV event when he has 80% of the relevant fighters out there.

A million per fight? I don't know. The top guys fight multiple times a year though and I read that Lesnar, GSP, Couture and Liddle all made more than a million in a year with salary and bonuses and such, before endorsements.

Fighters should have certain privileges that org's must not be allowed to control. What we have in MMA is near despotism, considering the amount of money the UFC is making, and control over just about everything about the fighters.

Fighters in the UFC are too dumb to fight against it. Yes, they are dumb. Think about where Ken Shamrock is going to be 10 years down the road. Does he even own his own likeness? We are already seeing, have already seen what happens to washed up boxing champs who **** away their fortune.. What happens to MMA fighters, who **** away even less of a fortune?

I'd rather the fighters be in control of some sort of commission, perhaps run by former fighters. I don't think people would mind having people blacklisted by Dana White, who have far superior personalities in charge of an org, like Bas Rutten and Dan Severn. I believe, trust, and enjoy them about a million percent more than Dana White.

Keep it the way it is.

Dictatorship (UFC) > Capitalism (Boxing), For the fans at least.

When this starts happening fighters will really begin to pick and choose who they fight. If you get million dollar paydays, why would you be hungry for your next fight? It happens in boxing, they are hungry for a few years and then they start conning the public by trying to make big fights out of nothing.

Mayweather went away, came back and earned silly money aganist Marquez.

Arlovski also got around the 1.2-1.5 million mark for his fight against fedor.

Not bad for the 3mins he put in...Though from personal experience its the training that ****s you the most..
