a 185 pound slugger with less than a 70 inch reach, a propensity to swell and cut rule the heavyweight roost? It's got to be any day now right? I mean, it has to be due since it has been 60 years since the last one? Especially given the paucity of talent in the division so oft-remarked upon... or is this supreme athlete in the ranks of the NBA?
With the availability of growth hormones and the willingness of the boxing training community to allow boxers to lift heavy weights, I don't see why a fighter would contest heavyweights at 185 pounds. And if by chance one was intent on doing it, I'm sure they would doctor the body weight somehow because sanctioning bodies would not be keen to allow a cruiserweight-heavyweight match.
Would the HGH help a reach of say 67 inches? Just grabbing that number out of the air. I guess I am just curious if the one and only example we have of such a fighter in the Post Jack Johnson era was an aberration, a once in a century talent which we should never expect to see again. And if so, then I could understand why such a talent doesn't surface in these frequent lulls of the heavyweight division, such as the Spinks reign or the mid 2000's.
Are you asking whether Rocky Marciano was a one-off ? If so, yes, I think most people would say he was. I think he's a "one-off", more or less. If he's not, then the onus is on someone else to explain who the other Marcianos are .... I mean, obviously, there have been short-armed come-forward sluggers of 5'10, and sub-200, of varying degrees of quality - from "tomato can" up to contender/champion level - and they exist in just about every era i would assume. But if there have been others of Marciano-quality, someone needs to be naming names.
They're all bulking up with Roids and Burger King like Adamek, Haye, and Chambers. Why would they need to stay at 185?
I don't know. Possible. Can't see it going much above 70 inches. HGH is said to be pretty good at reversing the balding process, so I bet toupee-era Rocky would be bang on it.
I think Marciano could make 205lbs with weightlifting & HGH, & would at the very least be a better Heavyweight in H2H terms than Eddie Chambers & Adamek, but i'm not going to speculate any further. Yes his height would hold him back against the Klits, because he wouldn't have the speed of foot to close the distance fast enough, especially when bulked-up to compete in the 201lbs+ modern Heavyweight division.
Can somebody post Marciano's aprox walk-around weight between fights please? It will help the validity of my post.
