When Williams beat Margarito did you see it as a clear, comprehensive victory by a clearly superior Paul Williams, or a victory won on activity by a fighter of equal or lesser overall quality than Margarito, based on superior reach, height, and/or handspeed? Though many people had Margarito winning, the vast majority believe Paul Williams won. The purpose of this exploration is to determine if Williams won this fight because he was the better man and genuinely outlanded Margarito, or if Williams won this fight because he stayed busy, regardless of whether his punches were hitting air and Margarito's guard most of the time. The details can tell us alot. What did you see?

Did you see Margaritos face after the fight he had nothing on him and PW supposedly landed quite a bit on him. Its one of two things. Either PW is featherfisted or Margarito actually did block alot of those shots.

Williams won this fight convincingly. Sure he was losing some rounds on the second half of the fight, but he went out to win the 12th round. IMO Williams will be even better in their rematch(if there is one).

It only means one thing, Margarito has an A+ chin and that's the end of it. Margarito was never known for being a defensive master to block most of what Williams threw, especially when Williams is fast.

7-5 Williams, but Margarito won 4 out of the last 5 rounds.

Williams was much more busy than Margarito, especially through the first four rounds.
I had Williams winning, but I would not call him the better fighter. Margarito landed the stronger and more damaging punches, and I thought had Margarito not given away the early rounds and started punching 80+ from the outset, he would have worn Williams down enough to sweep the championship rounds. By round 10 the bodypunching was starting to affect Williams, his face made it obvious and Margarito I thought was getting the better of the exchanges.

Great chin or not, shoulda expected more marks on his face. Especially since he isn't a defensive master and Williams supposedly "Kicked his ass" as some have said.

It was a close but clear win for Williams,I don't see why there is debate amongst people regarding this fight.

its also unfair to blame it on "activity"

if cotto beat margarito you in a ud... you would have had to attribute it to

    "activity"

because neither fighter could drop margarito and they fired everything at the man

    "activity" to one man
    might be
    "power punches" to the next

:huh No, it would depend ENTIRELY on how Cotto beat him. You can't give a hypothetical and then say it would HAVE to be to this. Also, activity, in Margarito's case, IS power punches.

im saying if cotto beat tony in a 12 round ud

that unfolded like there actual fight did... and cotto wins

he just wins off activity.. its not like he ever truly damaged margarito

I just can't picture Williams losing to Margarito in a rematch, maybe if he's weight drained or something. I think he would be alot more experienced than the first fight.
I don't buy the excuse about Margo starting slow, imo he just wears fighters down, he is easy to outbox, but you need to have the stamina to do this, if not he will just keep coming and run over you.

Activity implies arms moving and giving off the appearance of staying busy, but not actually scoring. Cotto was landing at a tremendous rate on Margarito, unlike Williams, or so it appeared. Margarito's face also looked like it had been hit by a truck after the Cotto fight, unlike Williams, as it appeared.
