When would you have stopped the fight???

I'd say he got it about right. Sprott wasn't throwing anything but he wasn't really getting caught.

It's difficult because as Watt says nothing clean really landed after the KD.

It was quite a quick count and argubly the ref was a bit Vegas like in letting Sprott continue as he wasn't really recovered. Anywhere between 42-45 seconds would have been decent.

But If I was the ref I don't think I would have let him continue after the KD as I don't belive he was there.

Difficult one that though!!!

 

If you're not stopping it straight after the knockdown then I think he got it right. No real clean shots until he stepped in.

I also think the commentator getting so upset by it makes it seem worse.

 

watch it without the commentary,the ref got it right in my eyes,he wasent getting hit by clean shots,maybe one got through,he was just real ****ed was sprott.good stoppage.

that margarito vs. Lujan fight when Lujan's ear blew up and popped on the side of his head and he looked like the cop tied to the chair from reservoir dogs... his ear flapping around was insane...and i think it should have been stopped right away..instead of letting the guy get hit there for a while. It couldn't have been a case of the ref not noticing it right away.

 

Overly dramatic commentary. The difficult thing for the ref was Lloyd's legs were noway near as gone as Sprott's, he was defending himself, and he was actually rolling with the punches which showed he was cognisant of the fact he was in trouble. But I think when it gets to 2 mins in the round and he's not fighting back you have to realize its unlikely to get any better and there is simply too long left.

It has to be said the fundamental errors our refs make can't be excused with videos like this. These are tricky decisions admittedly.

But our refs are making poor errors when fighters are not badly hurt. There are levels of being hurt and I think we're reading things quite badly.

We are also not giving our fighters (or rather opponents?) enough of a chance to recover when they are anywhere between stunned and moderately hurt. Inbetween being hurt and the potential stoppage point the ref has to be weighing up a number of things, the fighters legs, whether he's seeing the punches, whether he's defending himself well enough and then as it continues there has to be a point where they're fighting back if there is long left in the round. There are a lot of factors to weigh up so its never easy to get the ideal stoppage point but we're definitely too early in the scale at the moment. You can't possibly be making an educated decision by stopping the fight immediately after a knockdown and 1 flurry on the ropes that half lands.
